It's a Dog's Life!!

How do you think this dog feel? It is very well treated, eating quality good food everyday, sleeping on a soft cushion in an air-conditioned room at night, going to have its hair trimmed every week and enjoying a spa every other week or so. That's the good life enjoyed by many pets nowadays. I know one lady who is so attached to her dog that she doesn't go out to have meals with her friends, she always said she need to go home and accompany her dog! Have you seen people like that who over pampered their pets? Do you think that sometimes dogs have a better life than some hunman beings? Pet-owners and non-pet owners, share your views please....

I love my dogs, sweetie. But even if i treat them with all the luxuries in life, i won't put my life on hold for them. They are cared for and loved like mad, but they know when i ned a break now and then. I don't think people should treat their animals like that. What will they do when they loose them? We should always think of that, unfortunately. TATA.

Some always learn the hard way, sweetie. As harsh as that may sound.

Well, if they choose to continue walking where there's a wall ahead, surely they will bang their heads, it is only sad because they can't see the wall while it is very visible to the rest of the people.

I thought my friend was a bit too obsessed with her dog, imagine not making time for anything in her life and her whole mind is occupied with her dog at home. Doesn't seem to me that she's living in a real world. You are right, I think for such people, they will be very upset if they lost their pets, there was too much attachment.

Well, some dogs do and some dogs don't. But I think if one is going to have a pet then they should treat them well. I know some people over do it and treat their pets better than their flesh and blood family members. If I was a dog I would want her as my master.

Once we adopt a pet, we have a responsibility towards it and should treat them well. I guess we all like to be taken care of well or at least have a comfortable life.

hi bluepavilion thats a lucky dog owner too who can afford all that even for a beloved pet, but I think too much of any thing is too much. I never went quite that far when I had a dog. but we were always good to our dog of cou rse and loved her. I think anyone dog or human who is way overpampered might actually be a little unhappy too.. My friends would always come first, as my dog could surely eat her meals without me.I have never been able to treat myself to a spa much less a dog. he he.

Hi Hatley, hahaha, the dog might feel a bit overwhelmed with all that attention, it might start screaming, err barking for freedom soon!

Hello bluemoonpavilion, You are right, some of the pet owners pamper their pets too much. Yes, they do have a better life, better than poor people sleeping on park benches trying to warm themselves up burning or covering themselves up with newspapers. How unfortunate.

It is unfortunate my Voldi. But didn't that people just gave up on themselves and their own lives? TATA.

voldrox, imagine a pet strutting along in the park, and then there's this homeless person lying on the bench uncared for, the contrast is too much... saph, it may be so, but sometimes the disparity between the rich and the poor is so evident just by comparing the life of a pampered pet and a poor person.

Hi, bluemoonpavilion! I have noticed that you said "sometimes dogs have a better life than some hunman beings". The reason is "some human beings treat animals better than treating other human beings". According to above, we can infer that "two of a trade seldom agree."

Hi qian! I have seen people treat pets better than their old parents at home and it made me really angry to see that. It's not wrong that they are giving the best to their pets but couldn't they have done something better for their family? Btw, I didn't understand your sentence, "two of a trade seldom agree."

Yes, I sometimes think that they have a better life than us but it's a give and take relationship between the owner and the pet so it's really a fair trade. They take out the stress from their owners especially after a hard day at work. It's also an unconditional love and since they're very loyal, they won't ignore their owners, and in fact sometimes know how their owners feel. Even if they're not pampered, just as long as you feed them and give them shelter, it's okay for them. But there's also a limit to how much you can actually give attention to your pet. As you've stated there's a lady you know who preferred her pet over her friends...I guess it's better to set a time for your pet and a time for your friends/family but not in excess.

Yes, there should be a time for everything. Having a social life is as important as time spent with the family, in her case, her dog.

Hi bluemoon! In some cases you are so right! My cats, Star & Luna have a pretty good life. I spoil them as much as I can. I love them more than anyone or anything in the world. Last month I was worried that Star had a kidney problem because his urine smelled like ammonia and Luna was vomiting alot so I took them both to the Vet. I am on Disability so that was something I just didn't need to add to my bills, but they come first! It cost me $405, (which I will be paying off for a very long time) but, thankfully, so far they both checked out ok after blood tests and an X-ray for Luna! It was worth every penny to know that my "boys" weren't deathly ill. My last two cats cost me thousands because one had a heart condition and then got Cancer and the other always had urinary problems and other health issues. It didn't matter what it cost me, I did anything for them that I could to keep them healthy and comfortable for as long as I could~

Hi Opal! I see you are treating your pets as a part of your family and you really took the effort to take care of them and provide for them. I do not keep pets myself and am unable to imagine the feelings you have for your cats.

Well if you look at it that way It would be a nice life that someone pampers you each day but do you really wanna be a dog? hehe As a dog lover myself I really pamper my dogs because there are something about dogs that are able to relieve you some stress specially how they show their affection to their masters in their own way. Well having a life without bills to pay dealing people with different unique attitude each day and also going to work each day is quite a hassle. My friend really loves her dog and she even colors her dogs hair at a saloon. It would nice to be in a life with no worries just give love to the master that loves you hehe..just minus the butt sniffing and stuffs dogs do hehehe

Good question hehe....I definitely don't want to be a dog, I can't use the computer with my paws! I guess from the viewpoint of a pet, they are lucky if they meet good owners and not to have to compete for food or safety with those on the streets. Yes, pets do give us a lot of joy and restore our energy after a tiring day. It is only the obsession I am worried about. My neighbour's chihuahua likes me a lot and whenever I go their house, it would attach itself to me. I reciprocate by scratching it and smoothing its hairs.

For me yes they think they are comfortable so even if you take out in them in your home they want to support you and like your caring.

I am a pet owner,a dog lover and a dog enthusiast.I love my dogs,I had to brush their teeth everyday, let them run around the backyard for almost an hour and sometimes walk with them. They had been cared for.I had one dog that been sleeping in my room, she cannot sleep without air condition, she is love like a kid.Maybe as a pet owner we will include them also as a part of the family.

It is nice to see that you are treating your pets like your family. When you give love, you receive love back from them too!

I think that it is shameful to have such example of people who treat their pets like that in our country. Simply because I got disgusted when I compare the life of a "dog" with a life of a humain who can't even fnd what to eat, where to sleep, clothes to wear, and I figure out that a dog lives better then a humain being!! I'm not against having pets but we should not exagerat giving them over what they "deserve". Dogs still dogs, no matter how we treat them. However,if we calculate the money expended on pets, we can easily notice that it incredibly HUGE!! so why not using it to improve people' lives, people who really need to be supported: poor families, orphans, victimes of wars ..;we can also eradicat hungre from the word, put an end to crimes, eradicate illitracy too .. Have a nice day.

Hi Yoneh, Yes I feel sad when I see people treating pets better than their family. It's seems to be the exact opposite of what people should do, or rather, they should treat their pet as well as their family, but family should have priority.

hi ,i am a new one here,i am glad to meet you. i am a student studying in beijing now from a village, many times i see persons here just walk around with their dogs and talk to their pets sometimes,"honey, come on or this way". without doubt these dogs are lucky for they are taken care of well by their owners-humanbeings. although it is not feasible to compare people with dogs or pets,i had to say, to some extent, the pets have indeed a better life than some people from the poor districts. my english is poor, sorry for mistakes in the paragraph.

Hi lengyeqiyu, Nice to meet you too, welcome to mylot! Thanks for responding to my post. I have observed many such occurrences in my country too, people would hug their pets and can't seem to live one day without them. There was even a case of someone leaving all their inheritance to a dog. That was one really lucky pet! No worries about your English, we are all here to learn and improve, language skills included.
