Harry Redknapp again showed that he is the king of wheeling and dealing when it comes to last day signings by signing the ex-Real Madrid star for Tottenham. Van Der Vaart was deemed surplus to Real Madrid's needs by Jose Mourinho and Harry seized on the opportunity and the deal has finally been confirmed by Premier League authorities as a done deal!! What do you say on this? Cheers! Ram

This could be a fantastic bit of business from Harry Redknapp. I am really happy for Spurs that they managed to secure his transfer in time but I am not impressed by the Premier League for taking this long to ratify the deal.

Yes, what is the point of having a deadline when you allow things to continue even after that!! If you keep a deadline of a day all the process should get over before that!! Cheers! Ram

They should never have changed it from midnight to six because as we have seen it can be more difficult than it should be. They should have said early this morning that the deal was done yet they have only just told Spurs that the deal is done late this afternoon.

It will get even more complicated during the January transfer window. If you might remember Arshavin transfer to Arsenal. Apparently, it happened after the window period closes. But because the airport was closed due to heavy snowfall, the FA decided to give them leeway and the transfer was approved.

What makes me think Real is going to miss Der Vaart? " Deemed Surplus" means he wasn't hurt and he is still in his prime. So, if I'm a real fan I would better hope there are no injuries and then a opening Der Vaart could have filled.

He is 27 and has his best years ahead of him. Unfortunately he does not fit into Jose Mourinho's scheme of things. Cheers! Ram

Yes, at Spurs he can at least hope for more game time than he got at Real Madrid. Cheers! Ram

Maybe Real will see Van der Vaart having a great season, just like Robben and Sneijder did last season, and they will have a real flop. Van der Vaart has demonstrated that he is a quality player at Ajax, Hamburg and national team, but at Real Madrid he was another great player who sat on the bench. I think he will explode at Tottenham and Real will regret once again that they let a great player slip away from their hands. I hope that they will flop this year, with their "star coach" Mourinho in the first place.

The problem with Real is that they have had so many coaches over the last few years and each coach has brought in players as per his philosophy. As soon as a new coach comes in these players do not fit in the scheme of things. The same thing has happened with Van Der Vaart as he does not fit in Mourinho's scheme of things, but again Harry shows his awareness of situation a makes a great buy again. Cheers! Ram

Rafael Van Der Vaart and Luca Modric are both playmaker. Do you think they can complement each other or Redknapp is just getting Van Der Vaart as a backup or as a player rotation strategy since Modric is prone to injury? I have a feeling that Van Der Vaart will feature more regularly then Modric.

Tottenham is now playing in Champions League, so would require two quality players in the midfield. Especially if Modric is injured, this would turn up to be great signing. Cheers! Ram

This is definitely the surprise transfer on the last day. There was no rumours whatsoever. I was keeping an eye on the live update before the closing of the transfer window. It was mere minutes to the disclosure when it was first mentioned. They must have working furiously on the background to make this deal happen. Van Der Vaart comes with a big reputation and in him, I think Tottenham and Redknapp has got the best deal right on the dot.
