Have you gone swimming anywhere interesting this summer?

My family and I visited Walden Pond for the first time this summer, and got to swim in the lake made famous by Thoreau. Although it has become a tourist spot, and is visited by thousands of people a week, it is still a beautiful spot, and quite pristine, considering. It is a very pretty lake, surrounded by thick green woods. We were there at sunset, so that made it even prettier, and, since it was late August, some of the leaves were beginning to turn red and orange, which added to the beauty. I just found it fascinating to be swimming at the same lake that was written about by one of the "great" U.S. authors, and to be able to tell my kids that I had read Thoreau's book when I was in school. They are a little too young to appreciate the significance of that, but they loved the clear, relatively warm water, the soft silt bottom, and the little fish swimming with them. It was a wonderful family experience. What about you? Any special swimming stories or neat swimming places you have visited?
