Which is good idea to save electricity? Is it a good idea to let it in 'on' position? Don't it consume current? I used to off it whenever I don't use it. but I open it five or six time a day. Is it good for the computer?

I usually leave it on.. the monitor shuts down and goes to sleep.. I just find it takes to long to wait for it to start up and load all the programs every time i want to use it.. I shut it down maybe every week or two- when I know I am not going to be on for a long time.

Hi johnpillai, i never keep my computer on whole the day. Whenever i am free i will switch on computer and i do some work on it, in the night i will be chatting with my friends, otherwise i will hear to my favorite songs or music. But i never prefer to keep computer on for the whole day. I feel it is better to switch on whenever we have work. In a day one or two times i will switch on to the computer it also saves the electricity. Happy weekend.

It is definitely not good to keep a computer running for whole day long continuously , and especially if the room is not air-conditioned . Working all day , will generate more heat , which in a way reduces the life of the components . Nothing wrong in shutting down properly and opening it again...

I keep it switched on throughout the day Johnpillai. All of us need to use it and it is not possible for me to keep switching it on and off.

After I joined gomezpeer and 20dollarsurf my laptop always ON everyday, no problem for the electricity because it's free from our company. 24 hours my laptop ON, I only restart it when there's log. Even I am not in my room still my laptop running. This will help my earnings to rapidly increase everyday.

I keep my laptop in the "sleep" mode when I leave it like when I have to eat or take a bath or cook. But if I was going to leave the house, even if it's for a short while, like to the store, I'll switch it off. I don't like waiting for it to start up again knowing that after I eat or after I take a bath, I will go back to it again. I know it may not be the most energy-efficient practice, but I don't mind. LOL! I remove the battery of my laptop and just use plain old direct current so that I won't have to plug it to charge then unplug it when it's done charging, then do the same thing over again after 2 hours. I heard that removing the battery ,for extended use of the laptop, is better than with the battery on.

I'm always let my computer on, at least as long as I'm not gonna leave for a long time (a couple hours or more). About electricity, computer has different characteristic with other electronics tools. When you used your computer to load heavy programs, especially if you like playing hardcore games such as GTA, Crysis, or Farcry, then your computer will consume a lot of electricity. That will become worse if you're using old monitors (capsules). But when your computer is in idle condition, it will consume not more than your lamp. About switching on and off, it will be much safer for your computer if you keep it on, there are many computer peripherals that are very sensitive to electricity voltage. And the fact is, when you switching on your computer, some time the voltage of the electricity is far too high or far too low than a computer can tolerate. Luckily it is only occurs on a very short period of time, so your computer will not affected before a long time usage.
