Counting to one trillion would take close to 42,241 years

University of Houston professor Jim Granato stated that it would only take 31,688 years, but that would require you to spit out a number every second!! You can certainly count to 10 in 10 seconds, but when we start to move onto really long polysyllabic numbers (like 2,375,127,348 for instance) it becomes much more difficult to keep up with 1 number per second. Therefore, calculating how long it would take to count to a trillion(that's a million times a million)m would require a more dynamic formula that takes into account the increased amount of time it takes to name the number as the numbers get higher. It will take 542,241 years!!! Either way, don't expect to count to a trillion in your lifetime.

I can't even imagine taking the time to count to one trillion. I would lose count before i even got started. i wonder if anyone would sincerely give it a try or not.

its impossible to count to one trillion in a life time!!! its the same case for me, its difficult for me to count up to even hundred and the worst part is that its kinda boring!

i have just read the discussion guidelines and found an important thing.. one should not thank others for just responding to your discussion.. you are most welcome for it.. but let us try to follow their guidelines for our sake..

Wow that is a long amount of time! I can't imagine anyone actually taking the time to test it out and see how long it really takes. It's kind of sad that a Professor is wasting the time to figure out how long it would take. It seems to me there are so many things that need figured out that are more important. Like all our global issues and diseases.

That is pretty interesting if one would attempt counting up to one trillion. I'm just wondering how that University of Houston professor Jim Granato had come to an approximate of how many years it would take for one to do that. Did he even tried to count even up to a million? Well anyway, I tried to count but I only lasted until 100. I just got bored. There are better things to do with time rather than counting. Thanks for sharing by the way.

you are welcome!!! no i dont think so....he made a equation and calculations for estimating that! and u r correct that there are better things to do with time!!!
