WOW, two Shark bites today on the east coast of Fla. just when everyone is gearing up for the Last weekend Blowout of the Summer. One Surfer was bitten on the hand and the other on the leg. Both were bitten at Ponce Inlet one of my favorite beaches, but a bit North of where I live.
This weekend Cocoa Beach which is just east of where I do live, is having a Huge Surf Contest. They have some big names coming and a duo surf contest too. The duo surfers will be doing all kinds of tricks.
With the threat of sharks and the wild rip currents from all of the storms that keep going by it is going to be the most dangerous Surf Contest in years. There is a lot of concern that folks won't show up or go into the water. Would you go in the water under these conditions if you were a Surfer???

If people are getting bitten by sharks, then I don't care what the waves or surf is like, I'm not going in! I'm just not willing to risk my life this way, but if others want to risk it and they know the dangers, then they better have their own personal medical team standing by just in case. Otherwise, they are not only putting themselves in danger, they are doing so at the potential cost of rescue efforts.

Yes, that's what I've heard too! Sharks will often take an experimental bite first, to determine if their potential prey is edible or not. But that first bite might just be a fatal bite on a surfer who is paddling back to shore or out to the surf. I wouldn't want to risk losing an arm or a leg just for the sake of riding a great wave if sharks are known to be present!
Peace to you. :-)
