The baby is laid on the Mother or Dad's bare chest where it can draw from the warmth of the parent's body, hear the heartbeat it was recently ripped from & even have the smell of the Mother it was so used to being near. Some scoff at the idea of Kangaroo Care. However, the Ogg family of Australia says it delivered a miracle to them!!! Kate, the Mother, had just delivered twins...a boy, Jamie, & a girl, Emily. The twins came at only 27 weeks. The doctors couldn't get little Jamie to breathe & eventually declared him dead. The nurses asked Kate if she wanted to say goodbye to her son. When she said yes, they laid Jamie on her bare chest & she began to talk to him running her finger over his cheek...telling him how much they loved him & how much his little sister Emily was going to miss growing up with him. One of the nurses had a video camera & began to record Kate's plea with her son to not give up & asking him to stay with them. Several minutes into her talking to him, little Jamie began to twitch. Kate sent word to her doctor that Jamie was not yet dead. The doctor told her it was only a reflex movement & to accept that her baby was indeed gone. Kate kept talking to little Jamie & over the next 2 hours, he began to respond more. The doctor still refused to accept that the baby was alive & refused to even come back & look at the baby. Eventually little Jamie began to suckle on his Mother's finger. At one point he raised his little head & opened his eyes looking at his Mom. Kate thought what a blessing to even get to see his eyes before he died. Then little Jamie began to squirm, keeping his eyes open & responding to his Mother's touch...even holding onto her finger Kate asked the doctor to come back in & explain to her why she was losing her baby. To the doctor's amazement, little Jamie was alive & well. Today Kate & her husband David were on the Today Show with their 5 month old twins Jamie & Emily. David is holding Jamie & as you can see in the picture on the link, little Jamie is thriving quite well!!! The youtube video shows Kate feeding her thriving baby boy. I just wish I could find the video that was shown this morning of Kate talking to little Jamie. What a miracle to behold!!! I sobbed as I watched the video of Kate talking to little Jamie trying to convince him to stay with her & his family. What a miracle!!!! To me this goes to show that a Mother's love can cure ALL!!!! Have you ever witnessed such a miracle??? Do you know of such a story with such a happy ending??? Please share!!!

I heard about this story and I really do think that it is amazing. As far as knowing what kangaroo care is, it is something that I already know about because of the fact that I worked in a hospital and I'm also a junkie for those reality shows that take place in hospitals. It is something that isn't used nearly frequently enough in the United States, however it is something that they do tend to use in the NICU of hospitals to help babies get stronger quicker.
