Is hunger strike a form of suicide or not?

Many says its against the law of GOD and human and nature to kill one self. In short suicide. Even in catholic church suicide is a mortal sin. Since its only God has the right to take life. Then why do other do hunger strike to ask for demands. I mean like in politics. Some opposition prisoner do hunger strike to voice out their demands. I'm just wondering if I'm a corrupt government. Why will I care right?
