Does Anyone Have The Samsung Monte S5620 Mobile Phone?

A question for my friends on here.
My in-laws have bought my hubby a new mobile phone and it is driving him mad. He can't delete widgets that keep appearing on his front page. It's up to 4 at the last count and he really doesn't want any on there. The widgets themselves are those Samsung have already set up on the phone and don't cost anything, so they're not John's widgets, if you get what I mean.
So, can these widgets be deleted and if so, how?
The manual is useless.
