I think Meireles can be useful only if he can adapt quickly to the rhythm in EPL. We know that the English League is based on force and speed, and not on technical skills and nice touches like in Portugal. But as I know, Meireles is a strong player, who has no trouble making tackles and playing a nice pass to his teammates. If he can adapt to the rhythm I think he will be a good replacement for Mascherano, who has left for Barcelona.

I really don't think you need to mention your first part of the comment about whether he can adapt. Of course he can and it's not even an issue to any quality player.

@lakerfanster: there are many quality players who couldn't adapt to a certain style. Diego at Juventus, Owen at Real or even Sneijder, Robben and Van der Vaart at Real. I don't think that you can say about this players that have no quality. But it is a different culture, a different language and a different environment. Every player is only human, and there are different factors which influence his performance on the field.

Raul Meireles has come in as a direct replacement for Mascherano. But how effective he will be still needs to be seen. I think for starters Meireles will take at least one season to settle down in the EPL. After that we need to see if he is as effective as Mascherano was. I have till now not seen any evidence to convince me about it just yet.
Cheers!

Poulsen's move was down to the relationship with Roy Hodgson that he had when he played for him before. I think he still has a bit to offer and could be a good signing.

I was very impressed with Raul Mereiles during the World Cup. I am sure he will be a great replacement for Mascherano and will have a better attitude than Javier. Could turn out to be a great signing for Roy Hodgson's Liverpool.
