Tired of "People Problems" Getting in the Way of Your Success?

Do you find that there are times in your life that you do not pursue a certain course of action which you think you will do well because of - (1) Naysayers - the people who are always negative and say it wouldn't work; (2) not wanting to hurt anybody; (3) too many opinions that you do not know which to choose from. I remember abandoning a course of study that I like and which I think I can excel in when my older sister told me to choose a more practicable subject in the world of commerce. And so I did. Although I did not exactly regret taking up commerce which I began to appreciate, I always thought of what I could have achieved if otherwise and the different track I could have successfully pursued now on hindsight.

it happens quite a lot of times to a lot of different people carpediem... i think it's how it works. you tend to always consider what others would say if you take this or do that.... people have different opinions... sometimes, most of the decisions you've made in your life, weren't entirely your decision.. LOL.. i also wanted to have a different course to study back then.. but mom told me it wasn't practical too.. and thus have taken a course they wanted... like you i don't really regret what has happened and i've learned to appreciate it...

hi j107nette, yup, family or friend's opinions sometimes really curb what one intends to do. One thing I've learnt, not to get too many opinions and just do what I think should be done or regret forever!!

This sort of things did happen to me in the earlier part of my life.Just after finishing school i was told to join science college and after graduating to go for engineering. However soon after joining and completing 2 yrs i knew that i had made the wrong choice as i was unsuited for that course. Finally i took the decision and went for architecture which ultimately was more to my liking and the best for me. Then after working in many firms i was told not to join a big firm because of their attitude towards the staff. I did as i was told but then one day i did what my heart told me and applied for that job.It turned out to be the best decision i took because not only was i treated very well but the chairman and owner of our company sent me abroad to work in their overseas branch. This helped me a lot as i earned much more and handsomely than if i had continued working in my home office. So negative opinions did hamper me at first but when i took my own decisions they turned out best for me.

hi veejay, yup i think this normally happens when we were younger and need some direction in our lives. Probably my life would have gone on a very different angle and probably more into academia rather than commerce.

Listen to the advice of others but walk your own path. Life's lessons are best learned that way. What is stopping you now?????? One can choose a course of study even when one is 100 years old. GET WITH IT!!!

Human interference can be one of the worst things that get in the way of the success of me or rather anyone else for that matter. There are a lot of people and why their opinions are much appreciated, I do feel that they come across as way heavy handed and thus they are not going to influence what I really want to do, rather just turn me off. I think I just tried and figured out what I want to do and that's when I really started gaining some measure of success. Some of the advice is worth something, but a lot of it just conflicts with what I wish to do. Then again, what might work for you is not going to work for me. It is just as simple as that a lot of the time. Still people problems are in fact a problem a lot of the time for sure.

hi megamatt, human interference definitely has a major influence in our lives as to which direction to go. It is a case of Father knows best. But then again, I guess in all circumstance, there is a risk and that is life. Perhaps there should also be a basic course on how we react to unfairness, wrong decisions and adversity.

Don't get tired of dealing with "dream stealers". Just deal with them appropriately by not being affected by them. I remember when I was just starting out with network marketing, I was recruited by one of my uncles, I was working as a sales representative of a giant pharmaceutical firm here in the Philippines, the whole clan (of our family) almost celebrated knowing that I will do well in the new-found business. With hopes high, some of the relatives requested to join in first before I join so that they will get benefited by my coming success. But you know, network marketing, although there is a huge potential in this kind of business, it is not a get rich quick scheme. So, after days and months have passed, the expected sudden riches did not immediately happen, the used-to-be positive relatives and family members turned negative and naysayers. They then discouraged me not to pursue this business anymore and look for better faster avenues to wealth. I did not listen to them. After years of struggle building my business, I finally hit it big. Should I listen to their negative advices, I wouldn't be here now, achieved some level of success in my partner network marketing company. The lesson learned: Don't ever listen to dream stealers. They will just steal your dreams of success if you give in to them. Press on and avoid the negative people around you. Negative attitude is contagious. So, you should avoid the negative ones and surround yourself with people with positive attitude and positive outlook in life.

hi magtibaygom, thanks for sharing your experiences. Yup, life is sometimes so tough and it gets even worst when people in the family turn away from you or do not support you. A kind word is never wrong I guess. Glad that your business is doing well and certainly a lot of perseverance on one's part - away from the 'dream stealers'. People can be builders or destroyers of one's plans.

I have so many personal issues going on right now that I just try my hardest to avoid them, but not answering the calls of people who are only going to bring me down anyways. If I am forced to listen to such people I just listen through one ear and let it out the other.

Hi carp! I have learnt not to let people's opinions affect my own judgement. A good way to make a decision is to always do a thorough research. Make sure you know everything about the subject, then weigh the pros and cons. Once you decided, go all out for it and do not look back. We could not have known what would happen with the other path, we can only walk along the one we are on.
