A mere feather ----- - the ultimate cat's toy!!

Yesterday I noticed a large feather sticking upfrom my lawn, whether it arrived there via the stron wind we had or whether it was from intervention via my son ( I strongly suspect the latter!!) Looking out of my kitchen window a little later I was entertained for several minutes as one of my neighbour's cats played with the feather. Tia arched her back and jumpoed ear's back and [played for ages. When she left her brother Oliver arrived and took over! Despite all their actions the feather stayed put, but they had SO much fun, it made me laugh to think of all the expensie cat toys I know that my neighbour has bought for the cats and yet they seemed tomuch prefer this lowley little feather!!

Hi chem, Take a lesson from the cat, life's pleasures can be simple and free. It depends on whether we look in the right places. That must be really entertaining to watch.

my crazy cats are always finding toys, Rygel is really good at creating them out of not much - mind you, he strips my bed doing it! Now, the kitten in my avatar is named Oliver...

We have pet rabbits and they prefer the boxes too. I read your other post and was going to say "just like kids that prefer the boxes"...one year my daughter got her son a large inside playhouse and it came in a big box, him and his cousins played with that box until they wore it out!!!!

sounds a great cat toy. i think spending money on pet toys is usually pretty pointless - they always seem to prefer the free ones

Like when kids spend longer playing with the package than the toys!! I remember 30 years ago my daughter being obsesses with the boxes on Christmas, my mother in law said to her 'I'll buy you a cardboard box next Christmas@ my daughter was delighted!! So the next Christmas she wrapped up a large cardboard box with the words'Yvonne's Christmas Box' on( she did buy here 'real'presents too!)and Yvonne was chuffed. When she went back to nursery after Christmas and the teacher asked what she had got, she ignored all the expensive presents and said 'a cardboard box' !!

Hiya chem, They will do just that won´t they play with the most ordinary thing they can find. A Feather that is a good one. I suppose it seems more natural to them and that´s why they have so much fun. I would have loved to have seen them playing with that Feather although I can well imagine them going at the Feather time and time again. What fun for them.
