where to music students?

In the school where I am at, music has the smallest student population. I also remember my mother telling me not to take a degree in music as it is not an earning profession. So I took another course though I still took a degree in music as my second course. Looking at it now, I somehow find my mother's advice sound to a degree. Music is not an earning profession and if you do still get into a music course, it must be because you really want to and not because you expect to get rich through music. This may not apply to music celebrities but what about for the many ordinary students who may end up with no attractive employment? What do you think?
