Apple Mac problems in South Africa

I love my Apple Powerbook, but it's so expensive to have an Apple when you live in South Africa. And support is difficult to come by and also very expensive. This has been frustrating and I've often though about switching back to PC - as all programmes and support is so much easier to come by, plys you get so many more free downloads. For example, I bought a Lightscribe DVD writer, only to discover that I couldn't use it as I don't have the right software to use the Lightscribe facility. Where can I get good free or inexpensive Mac downloads? If anyone knows good Mac sources, please let me know. Any tips and hints will be welcome. I'm no tecchie, so I mostly stumble and bumble along on my own. Thnx, S
