clutter!!!

Does anyone have a good way that they use to get into the mood to just get up and clean the whole house?!? I'm a bit of a procrastinator, and clutter seems to build up in my house in one day. It seems we bring more stuff home every weekend and it just ends up sitting around taking up space. I'll clean the house, and it seems to get right back to being cluttered the next. We are currently trying to re-model some of the house, so that doesn't help. I don't know if having more shelves would help or not. What's your advice? I just tend to get overwhelmed by it all and do only a little bit here and there!

Is it clutter as in unneeded items or is it clutter in items that are used and not put away? If they're unneeded, toss them. Give them to charity or put them in the trash. A garage sale is a big undertaking and you sound overwhelmed the way it is, so why not bag up some things give them away? Maybe a friend, neighbor or relative would like this or that. Learn to look at things with a critical eye. If someone else had it lying around unused, do you think they should keep it? As to your fiance, if he decides he can't live without it, tell him that it's up to him to store it out of sight, otherwise you need the space for other things (like your peace of mind). If it's clutter as in things not being put away, there's only one way to deal with that if the things are yours. :) But if they're someone else's, you can ask them to put the things back when they're through with them. It might take a few times of you reminding them, but eventually, they'll do it.

Sounds like you're getting some of it done! I would probably take more drastic measures when it came to putting things away, like either leaving them until it looks bad to them or just piling it all onto the couch or coffee table in one pile. LOL

I grew up with my mom always telling me that she shouldn't have to tell me to put my things away, so I do! These men on the other hand...I tell them time and time again. I have my routine of things and they have theirs. I don't want to sound like a nag all the time so I have just stopped and decided to just do it myself. We have a pile of things we are going to give to my mom. We took, like, 5 bags of clothes and stuff and donated it to a shop here in town. I just need the ambition to do it all. I need to get rid of some plates and stuff. Our whole pantry is filled with them!

Hi, I have the same problem as you do. I am a procrastinator as well. And my table is full of things that I am just waiting for myself to clear it up. I think having more shelves would just make your house more cluttered than ever. As my stuff are always lying around everywhere, I kept complaining that I do not have enough space to keep my things. I thus bought shelves and tables, which I thought would help keep my room neat. I packed everything neatly the first day I bought my extra shelves. It was neat, for 1 day, for 2 day, and then the whole thing was messed up again. It seems that I have more things than previously. I never understand that. This has not happened once, twice, but many many times. However, I still do advise you to have some shelves as it's easier to pack that way.

Yup. My kitchen table has papers that my fiance dragged out with emails on it, my purse, coffee necessities, and what not. Our dining room table is a catch-all. The living room stays pretty neat except for animal hair and I clean that regularly! We also have a room mate and he tends to leave stuff out like his drinking cup or something. I just need the ambition...We had the house SO clean a few weeks ago because we were having company. I felt so much stress off my shoulders! Now?...that's another story! haha

if you havent used it in a year, get rid of it. when something new comes in, one thing goes out and junk mail and paper that you dont need, put right away into the recycle bin with out it ever sitting around anywhere.

Whenever I try to throw anything away, my fiance decides he needs it...that's what's frustrating. We NEED to have a garage sale or something. I have dishes, plates, bowls, and cups coming out of my ears! And his mom just gave us more...ugh...

I am also a procrastinator. If you enter in my apartment, you might think it's a garage sale because most of things are just everywhere. Just yesterday though, I had a semi-major general cleaning and since I have extra boxes in the store room, I placed all the things that I don't need for now in there and placed a name of the box like " my unused clothes" or unused something. and I agree with some of the post here, a little garage sale will make it good for the unused things you don't need. You can also make a profit as well. Good luck on the remodelling of you house, my friend. Happy mylotting! :D

Haha, I'm also a procrastinator myself. In fact, I procrastinate a lot. I'm trying to make myself do things faster and more immediate. Well if you ask how to get into the mood to get up and clean the house, think of happy events that's gonna happen the next day or even few weeks or even months later. I think that'll help.
