Are you really listening?

I'm not sure why I included "listener" in my discussion interest. But I guess it's because I believe I really have the "ears" for listening and some working "neurons" for understanding. But would you agree with me that a lot of times when we say that we are listening what we meant really is that we are merely hearing the words that had been spoken?

I agree because I think listening means paying more attention to what the speaker says and be sensitive toward him/her.

Exactly! To listen is to try understand and to hear is to never try to listen at all.
