Obama watches The View

For the first time today, Obama complimented George Bush. Why? For visiting a Mosque after 9/11 to tell them we don't think all Muslims are bad. He said he was never so proud of Bush as when he did that. Guess where he got the info? From The View and their guest Colin Powell, yesterday. Oh, well, at least he finally admits Bush did something right instead of constanting blaming him for all the world's ills? Do you, like Obama, watch The View?

I've watched a few episodes of The View...enough to feel sorry for Barbara Walters for doing that to her reputation.

I think you're right. As the queen bee I'm sure she's paid a hefty sum but to ruin a decades long career and go out as a joke in the end? Not to mention the negative image of women I see portrayed there. I actually sent her an email after watching one episode expressing my disappointment in her decision to associate herself with something that makes women look so shallow and down right dumb.

I personally don't watch it, but a family member does. He called to tell me what had transpired on the day Colin Powell visited because Joy Behar and Whoopie Goldberg were especially incensed that he had something complimentary to say about Bush with which they absolutely could not argue. But then I listened to Obama and almost fell off the sofa to hear him saying the same thing. I guess he watches it because he's a fairly frequent visitor to it. I agree that Walters, who was once a respected journalist as fallen a long, long way, but evidently it pays well and that's all that seems to count.

One of the biggest differences I see between Bush and Obama is that Obama seems to need to be congratulated and to congratulate himself for any job "well" done. Bush, on the other hand, seems to need people around him to tell it. Obama would never miss an opportunity to shut down primetime TV (probably during Monday Night Football) to drop the news that he reached out to someone.

What I couldn't believe was that Obama had to use Colin Powell's words to actually compliment Bush. He didn't have a clue that Bush had stopped by the mosque to reassure the people they would be safe until he watched The View, because only a couple of people knew it and Bush saw no reason to talk about what he had done. He figured his job was to do everything possible to protect our country, without explaining every step he took or insisting he was fabulous just because he did something, so he kept most things tight to his chest and kept on working. Even the sign on the ship, which was attributed to him, was put up by the crew as a surprise. Unfortunately, it was a surprise, for a commander-in-chief they really liked, that backfired and for which he was beaten down by the other party the rest of his time in office. Yet, unlike our current commander-in-chief, he never once chastised the men on the ship. He took their compliment as just that and then took the slings and arrows himself instead of trying to redirect them to those guys. But Bush also had another great part of his personality. He could joke about himself. Obama will never be able to do that unless he's blaming someone else at the end of it. Bush spoke at a high school recently and mid-speech, he broke into a rendition of "Put the Blame on Me, Babe," which had the crowd roaring in appreciation of his wit.

President Bush can laugh at himself and has a great sense of humor. That is not something I can say for Obama.

I have seen the show before, but I don't watch it. It is boring and argumentative and for the most part, liberal. Of course, Obama watches it. It isn't hard to figure out why.
