Senior Widow/widowers remarriage - will it work?

Here in India there is a trend to encourage Senior widow/widowers remarriage. If the prospective partner is well known to either of them it could perhaps work. But trying to match couples is to my mind quite not the right thing to do. It takes years for a married couple to learn to adjust to each others' idiosyncrasies and here when one is expected to marry a total stranger what are the chances that these marriages will work. No doubt the seniors need companionship but more importantly they need an infrastructure that can take care of their day to day needs as their children would have left the shores seeking greener pastures. How best can these seniors be kept happy according to you?
