what type of people are pitiful people?

Last I recall the definition of pitful are people who arouse contemptuous pity, as through ineptitude or inadequacy. Pity is not something one should ever crave as inadequacy is something that leads to depression and or low points in life.

Pitiful people are those who are victims of unhappy marriages; like for example... a battered wife, abused children. I dont tell these people that i do pity them. I also pity old citizens who still work hard to earn a living in order to sustain their grandchildren. I also pity the families who have lost a member who was murdered. I know all these pitiful mentioned struggle to have a normal life and i would never dare tell them that they are pathetic as they might only wallow more into pitiful situations.
