What Were They Thinking Of Designing This?

To be honest, I've only flown with Ryanair once, and that was to Dublin with Mum. There were problems with an overweight suitcase (something Ryanair rips people off with on a regular basis). I've vowed never to fly with them again, even for free lol. Anyway, the boss of Ryanair is a nutter in my humble opinion. His latest hair-brained scheme is standing passengers! That's right STANDING PASSENGERS! For safety reasons I'm hoping the strange contraptions shown in the article below won't take off, so to speak but I've never seen anything like it. Let me know your thoughts. If you're like me, you want to be sat down properly on a plane, not forced to stand up (well, sort of) and it's bad enough having to stand up on a train without doing so many miles high up in the air in something travelling very, very fast indeed. I also think they discrimminate against larger people judging by the photograph. http://uk.travel.yahoo.com/p-promo-3359824

It's already bad enough that the seats are crammed so close together. Ridiculous!

If you can get front row, there is leg room, but then you don't have storage that you can reach. If it isn't one thing, it's another...

I agree. When we flew to Las Vegas (the 2nd time) it was a joy because we had an upgrade to sit in the posh seats at the front. I soon realised how cramped the ones behind us were and I couldn't help feeling sorry for them all crammed in like sardines. We travelled like that the first time we flew to Las Vegas and it wasn't a pleasant experience, especially for John as he's over 6ft tall. If I ever fly anywhere ever again it will have to be in decent seats, I won't settle for anything less. This may be a snobby attitude on my part but the pilots don't have duff seats, so I don't see why I should have to sit in one.

That's true. I'm always frightened of turbulence and those overhead baggage thingys opening out and all the contents come crashing down onto my head..like in the films!

Geez, I wouldn't want to be flying too far in those seats! They would not be very popular here at all. I think that they would get into safety concerns if they tried jamming more people on the planes. In the case of needing to evacuate the plane quickly, the more people would obviously create dramas and safety issues. I hope that they do not 'Take Off' too.

Hideous aren't they? The latest hairbrained scheme by the Ryanair boss is to alleviate the need for co-pilots!! Needless to say, most pilots are against this and one in particular has spoken out and said, "well in that case, his job can be done by an air stewardess, thus saving Ryanair millions." Haha! I mean, what would happen if the pilot had a heart attack? The co-pilot is there for back-up and for times when the pilot wants a rest. I know all this through watching "Air Crash Investigation" a programme I'm obsessed with!!

Air safety is one area that cannot afford to have short cuts taken in it. One little tiny error can cause the deaths of hundreds and affect the lives of thousands.

That's so true. Seats like these cannot justify a £5 air fare which is what all this is about. If people weren't so tight then that stupid Michael O'Leary (the boss of Ryanair) wouldn't have these hair-brained schemes. This is the main reason why I will not fly with that tin-pot airline.

I was envisioning the hand straps used in the old Buck Rogers flics... I guess one would have to be a certain height to use those "seats", otherwise one would no longer be standing but dangling...

Well, they were designed by an Italian - not famed for their height I have to say!

well..if it's a short flight,i suppose i could deal with it.. but how are they going to fully secure passengers of different heights? (like children)or women with infants? sounds like a bad idea all around.

Exactly! I like to be comfy on a plane, not packed in like sardines (although that does happen in current seats, I realise that) but this is going a step too far. O'Leary will be asking passengers to fly his planes next. I hope he doesn't read this, otherwise it will give him ideas to do just that!

I never intend to fly, that being said.. I would never even dream of "sitting" in those types of seats. Even if they could somehow safety regulate them, on long flights it would be uncomfortable to "sit" after awhile. Now I did see an article I believe I might have made a discussion on, about beds in planes...

Ryanair (the airline that would want to use these seats if available) don't fly that far but even so..I wouldn't get on a plane if it was full of those hideous alterntives. I remember in the 1980s planes would regularly have 500 comfy seats in them but now you're lucky to get half that if travelling to somewhere like Spain. Oh, those were the days!

well short flight or not... I think with all things, the economy effects the materials used and so we might pay more but the quality is less.

Hi Janey. I think they would be uncomfortable seats. I am a short person and I don't think I would like to be in those seats for lots of miles. I don't fly but if I did I think I would rather be seated in a normal seat not the ones in that article.

I wish Ryanair would go bust to be honest. Their boss is a raving lunatic and I don't like him at all!
