The mind wanders... then wonders.
Thoughts as I was toasting a bagel this morning and picking up some rogue flax seeds:
Flax. Linen is made from flax. And cotton is made from, well, cotton plants. They make cloth from hemp. Why can't they make it from tobacco plants?
Then I hear Jimmy Stewart in my head hollering, "Now wait just a cotton pickin' minute!" and start wondering just what, exactly, is a "cotton pickin' minute"?

It took a lot of work and time to pick cotton I suppose…Is that where the phrase came from? Come to think of it, working in cotton fields would have been really, really hard…Maybe I am out of my cotton pickin’ mind…

Good morning! I had to laugh when I heard that phrase. My uncle used to say "Have your lost your cotton pickin' mind" We were little back then when we heard him said it and we thought that was the funniest thing we ever heard! Have a great day!

That's another one, though more often I've heard it as "ever-lovin' mind". I guess "cotton pickin'" was a euphemism for some obscure expletive deleted.
