Do you take leave a few more days during festive season to avoid traffic jams?

Recently i just went back to my hometown which was 450km from where i am staying as we are having the Hari Raya holiday. My wife was not taking extra leave therefore we have to travel back during the peak hours.... our journey that would be just 5 hours in normal days took 9 hours in total... (3pm to 12am) It was really tiring. Do you take additional leave during festive seasons like this in your country? I do think an additional leave of 1 or 2 days would be a lot better, at lease we would save almost half of the time traveling and would be also safer for all. What do you think?

Yes, I do if and when possible. Some times, with the heavy workloads at the office, it is not possible, especially when many people start taking long holidays. But, I do not usually drive out of town during the holiday periods, with the roads and highways having heavy traffics.

Its great when you don't have to queue up in the jam with the rests during holidays. Sometimes, a few days at home resting is better than going somewhere and wasting most of the time in the traffic jams :D Cheers!

I usually try not to travel on holidays. If we want to go away to celebrate, we usually go away the weekend before or the weekend after the holiday specifically to avoid holiday traffic. We had to go away to take care of business on a holiday weekend a few years ago and the normal two hour trip took us almost 5 hours and that's when we said never again.

Yup. I do agree that it is good to avoid travel during holiday season. We too plan not to go back during next year's holiday and instead stay here and go shopping :p Then we would get the best out of both world... easier parking in shopping complex and also avoid the holiday traffic :D

If your works are not hurry, you should do it. I usually do that too. Traffic is very horrible here on holiday. So, I usually leave 1-2 days after the festival to avoid it.
