With internet, many schools are offering studies online. I see it to have an advantage especially to those working students with limited time and resources to get to school everyday. However, learning by yourself alone in front of a computer could be a boring task which may not be encouraging.

I've tried an online course once because I had to and I found it interesting...although I would have wanted to learn that in a live lecture class. I'm the kind who learns better with teachers. When I study alone, I can understand the lesson but with live classes, they stick in my long term memory better. Aside from being boring, there is no opportunity for a student to clarify some topics and ask questions to a teacher. On the other hand, online studies may be beneficial when students already have a hectic schedule and need to have studies where they can control the time despite their hectic schedule and who can manage to study on their own. I guess it depends on the type of student too.

I think online education is a good thing. It can encourage more people to go to school, that might not have been able to, due to the fact that they did not have the time or energy. There are many people at older ages, finally having the chance to attend college to better themselves in their lives. They would not have been able to do so, becomes of other commitments, like jobs and families.
It should be said that online education is not for everyone. I for one never really liked the traditional education. There was just too much wasted time in my opinion. I tended to learn at a quicker place and there was times where I was bored out of my skull in the classroom. Still, I do admit that a structured environment is the best for some people. In the end, online education is great, but it really depends on the person.

Yes, this is a very good trend I think since it makes all kinds of classes available for people all around the world. I personally think it is great and I have even taken a long distance course in the past. It was great!
