Livejournal Layout Queston: S1 to S2.

I have been using Livejournal for many years, but I am still using the S1 style layout (which I believe is not supported anymore). While using the S1 style layout, I am also using my own layout rather than one of Livejournal's. I made my own banner at the top, changed the link titles to the comments (so it does not just say "leave comment" or whatnot), and so on.
So I have been thinking of finally switching over to S2 style. But my question is, will this effect my current layout and changes? I did not know if my layout would change and I would have to start over with it, or if it would stay the same.
I hope the way I am wording this makes sense lol.

It's been years since I switched to the S2 style, but I was using a regular LJ template, and I don't think anything changed. I think all the S2 would do is give you more options, without changing what you have already. Have you looked in the help section? I'm sure there's information about changing from S1 to S2. Hope someone will come along who's been through it and can give you a better answer.
