Hi guys, can you give some advice on how to lower blood cholesterol levels? Mine is you should eat more fruits, vegetables, cereals and legumes. Choose poultry, fish, lean meats and low fat dairy products.

Get into the sunshine. Your body uses cholesterol to make Vitamin D and most people are deficient in Vitamin D. It's not been said that I can find, but I wonder if the current trouble many have with cholesterol is directly linked to the current Vitamin D deficiency problem so many have.

Really? Sunshine helps in cholesterol levels? :) I've just read that oatmeal also lowers cholesterol levels. Oatmeal prevents the cholesterol from being absorbed by the small intestines.

Yes, really. It uses what cholesterol your body already has to make Vitamin D, which is only produced when you are in the sunshine. Oatmeal helps too, but in a different way. There are other ways and you will lower your cholesterol faster if you use a combination of ways. Weight loss in itself will help. Eat more vegetables and grains and less meat and dairy products. Exercise more, eat more good fats like those found in olive oil, nuts and fish and avoid stress when you can. That's about it in a nutshell. :)

Hello pogi253, in response to ways how to lower blood cholesterol levels, you should know first which type of blood cholesterol is it the HDL or LDL. If you want to lower both, do the exercise routine, veggies, low fat diet and medications if it's beyond your control.

Foods that are rich in plant sterols such as margarine spreads, and yogurts can also help to lower the LDL or the bad cholesterol. And a bowl of oatmeal or cereal everyday. And a handful of nuts too...

One of the best way to reduce cholesterol is to get into sunshine. When our body gets more sunlight, cholesterol level also reduce. Try to eat more fruits and also cut down nonveg as far as possible. Walking is a good exercise and it will pump more oxygen to our mind and to our heart and also helps to reduce cholesterol and to keep healthy. Try to eat small portions of food in increased number of times. This is good for digestion.

my teacher in college once told us that to have a healthy body you should start to have a healthy lifestyle. why not start by walking at least 10-15 min. a day is a big help because it helps you burn fats.

You should try to eat foods that are low in fat and salt. Exercise at least 3 times a week. Religiously take your prescribed medications. Have some regular check up, I guess.:)
