Unless you've been hiding in your closet for the past several weeks to months you will have heard about the proposed Muslim cultural center some blocks from Ground Zero in New York City. There have been protests for and against this center, the debates heated.
-
On the anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center, a protester named Derek Fenton ripped up pages from the Muslim holy book the Koran and set it alight. This action was caught up in living color and posted all over the Big Blue Marble via TV and YouTube.
-
He was removed from the scene outside Park 51 (the site where the controversial mosque is to be built), by police and then released without charge. Now Fenton of Bloomingdale, New Jersey has to pay the piper so to speak.
-
His employer, or former employer NJ Transit isn't happy with so many eyeballs on one of their hotheaded employees. "Mr Fenton's public actions violated New Jersey Transit's code of ethics.
-
NJ Transit concluded that Mr Fenton violated his trust as a state employee and there he was dismissed."

I think that what Mr. Fenton did was beyond despicable however I think that his dismissal fro NJ transit was a violation of his right to freedom of speech. As long as Mr. Fenton committed this act on his own time, NJ Transit has no right to dismiss him.
