Do you shop at a Dollar Store?

Money Saved! Shopping at the Dollar Store - It may only be a dollar but it really does go a long way in the Dollar store. I don't mind spending a lot of bills on good food and clothing, but I like to bargain shop with my dollars for the disposable stuff!

Do you ever shop at one of the "Dollar Stores"? I never had been into one until a few years ago, I went in and found a few cool things, but it wasn't until about a year ago that I realized how much money those stores can really save you. I now buy all my "disposable" items as I like to call them. Anything I use to throw away like paper towel, Toilet paper, window wash, dish soap, hand soap, sponges, and so on. Those sort of items cost at least triple the price in a grocery store and 1-2 times more even in Walmart. There are things sometimes that are cheaper in walmart, but not much. I am curious how many other people do the same thing and find that they save a ton of money?

Well I like you shop at the Dollar store. Why pay more for the same thing at a differnet store? I do go to 2-3 stores when i even grocery shop to try to get the best deals of course they are close together and it's good to have a cooler in the trunk also. But I same alot of money and sometimes it's best to get online to see whats on sale before making that store list out and i also shop different times of the month mostly try to get in ther when sales are going on and save alot of money even a few dollars help out when saved especially with Christmas right around the corner. I also like the Discount Dollar where everything in the store is a dollar they even have things where they are 2/1.00. It also saves me tiime and money.

I agree that if you have the patience to go to a few stores at a time and to go during certain times when there are sales, it really saves you a ton of money. A lot of people these days are just in too much of a hurry and they just spend whatever it takes so they can get their shopping done. I enjoy taking my time and saving the money.

It really is. Do you go weekly or monthly? I try to go weekly or if I don't need as much, I will go every 2 weeks. I think a lot of the stores have gotten bigger inventory as well since so many people have made it a popular place to shop.

I shop at the dollar store - sometimes I'm too lazy to go there though when I know there's stuff I need from walmart or target that they won't have in the dollar store. Alos a lot of times when I go there I end up buying crap that I don't need that just clutters up my house - I always use the "but it's only a dollar" justification in my mind! :)

That is a good point. If you are not focused on what you are there to get, it is easy to buy a lot of stuff you don't need just because it is a dollar. I actually have a list I keep in my bag of the things I get each week so I can just go down the list when I am in the store and get those things, that way I am less distracted.

I check out dollar stores about 4-5 times a month. It's nice because they're always getting new things in stock. I do as you do, I buy paper plates/napkins, etc there. We also buy cat little there for our rabbit's litter pan. I like going there during Christmas too because they have wrapping paper and some decorations that are decent quality for such a small price.

I think the Christmas items at the Dollar store are great! I have bought paper, bows, tags and I even get stocking stuffers there as well which can really add up if your trying to buy a bunch of little things at some other store. I love that they do get new things and sometimes you can go in there to find something specific and they will have it!

Dollar General and Family Dollar are available in my neck of the woods. What they don't have I buy half price at our nephew's discount wholesale store. I'm not above getting something cheaper if I can. We have spent a total of $45 this week at actual grocery stores after purchasing all our canned goods, toiletries and cleaners at the "dollar" stores, and of course Brian (our nephew) & Missy's (his wife) Cost Cutters stores. Got a jug of Tide for $4.50, only a dollar more than what I paid for the same size jug of Purex laundry soap at Family Dollar.

That is great that your nephew owns a discount store! How cool and helpful is that!? I would secretly love to own a Dollar store, but I think my husband would kill me if I opened one :-) $45 for the week on groceries etc is amazing.

Saving money always feels good, no matter how much money you have or make, it is just nice to save money on the things that just get thrown away eventually anyways. It would be great if more places came up with this concept, so for shoes! :-)

$ - $
Yep, been shoppin at them a long while. Ya never know what yer gonna find. DVDs? Hell yes! Sunglasses? Oh yea! Batteries? You bet! But you have to pay attention, because SOME stuff at dollar stores are NOT a bargain. Be sure ya know what stuff costs. I mean, I'll see stuff for 59-79 cents at the supermarket and they want a dollar at the dollar store. But I agree with you about alot of the household goods. That's a bargain!

I love the dollar store for arts and craft items. It is great when kids need things for projects for school or for fun. I also find things that are helpful for crafts like the dried flowers, decorative papers, yarns and items like that. You can't go anywhere now without seeing scrapbook stuff as well and it can be pricey, so I just get stuff for my scrapboooks from the dollar store when I find it.

Of coarse all the time. I love them. We have one near us that has brand names and are still only a dollar. You can't beat that. It saves you 50 to 100 dollars on grocery bills.

It is true. I save at least 50 bucks minimum by NOT buying certain things at the grocery store. All the disposable stuff I mentioned before like TP and soap, I also find my toothbrushes and toothpaste at the Dollar store, and they are all brand name so you know you are getting good quality items. I think more people should try it out for a week or so and see how much they save!

Awesome! Sometimes I enjoy it not only because I am saving money, but because I also find it fun to look around the store for new things that could eventually be added to my weekly list to cut costs!

That is great! I have not purchased any clothes at the dollar store in my area because I have not seen much in the clothing department, but if I was to find something like a nice sweater like you did I would buy it for sure. I love clothes and it diesn't matter if I buy designer or walmart, if I like something that is when I buy it.

Yes, I think that the dollar stores are a great place to save money on items like you mentioned. If you are careful you can save quite a bit of money. I bought face creams there for a couple of dollars that was as good as those selling for quite a lot more in other places.

I used to go in them to pick up little things once in a while but after we moved here we were so broke we didn't have money for groceries. The Dollar General is half a block away. I buy a lot there now--cereal, soup, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, snacks and I love that I can get little things for the kids. I got all of their stocking stuffers there last year. My sister in law works for a Dollar General so my in-laws are always sending the kids stuff from there.

I love going to Dollar Stores we have a Dollar General and A Dollar Tree where I live. They also have some great greeting cards that are just as nice as wal-mart but only cost 50 cents. When I visited family in Texas they had a 99 cent store and everything was 99 cents or less. But they didn't carry like paper plates and stuff like that.

If you get the change you should. Even if you just need a few household items stop into a dollar store and see what they have and how much they can save you. I have even stopped there before on short notice and have found cute little gifts for pepople in the office and things like that.
