What is a christian? Did Jesus called His followers christian?

Why is it that the believers call themselves today as christians?

No, He did not call His followers Christians. He called them disciples. I think the idea of being "Christian" is a western mind set (that has spread to other various parts of the world). I personally don't like the term very much.
