Lack of education or stupidity?

This Monday we started a landscape project in a large park. The project was made to arrange the green spaces next to a newly made playground. We were suppose to work in parallel and finish the landscaping project in the same time as the playgound, but because of some funding issues, the project was delayed and in the mean time the playground was opened for about a month. This Monday though, we closed it down again to start arranging the green spaces. Only there was a big problem : angry parents demanding that their children should be let to play there. We tried to tell them it's dangerous because it's now a construction site, and there is a lot of dust and noise and dangerous equipement, but they still insisted. They saw the area was surrounded by protection strips, yet they moved them aside and kept comming in. So I'm asking you myloters ...what could those adults be thinking, gringing their children to a dirty work space? I know they kids already got used to the place and they like it, I know it was suppose to be o[ened all at once, but shouldn't people be more understanding? Do you think that lack of education made those parents have such reaction??Or is it pure stupidity? Happy posting!

Hi dear, The parents have their own reason and explanation for it. You could have select a few members as their representatives and could have sit for some time and explain the aftermath of the issues. Even though it is not a matter to be discussed and every one could understand without an explanation to it. However, is this is the case, if you along with a few others and few of the parents representatives are present, inform them all the real consequences and you can tell them it will get completed within so & so time and afterward they can continue playing. Still they are not ready to accept the facts, let them do whatever they want. Because, whatever they learned only they will sing. So, too much botheration is not advisable. You are clear with your side and you can say good bye to them, if they are not in line with you. Regards, Thank-s

Think like(not of) the children, they don't care that the big machinery or dust is there they just want to play, and if you don't let them play they scream. thanks1961's third paragraph reminded me of a quote in one of Dale Carnegie's books "A man convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still" I don't know, I was say it was probably the screaming.

Hi dear, Thanks for the comments. As being a father, he must have certain default responsibilities. If they cannot manage the simple atom family, also, for their own child and wife, then for whom they are living. It is just ignoring and taking the chances. Make them to realize and they should know the best time in life they are spoiling for silly things. Once it is gone, should understand that time will never come back and gone is gone forever. The few moment here we have should enjoy its fullest, whatever we are and wherever we are. As an employee, we do all our works, like that as a parent or father, if we do our work to our family, I think that is the best thing what we can do for them and yourself. Regards, Thank-s

I understand your side. And I also get the point from the other respondents. Maybe one mistake is on your side too, that is, opening the park area. And also a mistake on the parents side. Maybe these parents are also selfish that all they give side to is their child's insistence to play there. But if have legal rights to close the park, then maybe you can get some help from the police force. To educate the parents of the improvement of the area and to assist you from those who really want to cross the line. I don't think its stupidity or lack of education, it's just their selfish reaction for their children's sake.

I feel from your discussion that the parents of those children are not stupid, but they lack common-sense. They may be educated also, but a little bit indisciplined and irrational in behavoiur to make right decision with patience for their children! Anyway, you may take the help of the authority to handle such unpleasant situations, where the children are at risk for their parents' demands! Thanks for this topic and have the issue well setteled!!

Maybe when those parents had a bad childhood experience. They probably didn't have the same opportunity to play when they were kids and now that they are the parents they don't want their kids to not enjoy their childhood. You can only enjoy your kids while they are young. They just want the kids to enjoy. It might be risky but it would be worth it if it can make the kid smile and have fun.

I think you can try talking to them first like Thanks above suggested. If they still do not obey, maybe you can closed off the whole area. I would rather incur the wrath of parents than risk the safety of the children. Sounds like the parents really lack common sense or are irresponsible because they disregard the safety of their kids. A construction site can be very dangerous, especially so to young kids who might just wander into the construction site out of curiosity or they might accidentally throw a ball in or something and then will go to retrieve it.

hi reya, before starting the project, perhaps some publicity or posting be made available for impacted users of the playground to tell them the timeline of the works etc. This can manage the expectations of the users or their parents. Or some signage can be made to direct them to the next nearest playground.

i'm apalled too by such actuations those parents have shown. i couldn't understand either what was running in their mind in allowing their kids to be exposed in a place where construction is still on-going. i don't know if their deportment is due to lack of education as there are people here in our place who never went to school and yet could follow rules set before them. to hinder them from getting into that playground, probably you can ask for help from policemen to guard the place.
