When do you start giving your kids to eat normal food as we do?

My son is almost 19 months old, but I still haven't let him eat the normal food we are eating, as I think those food are not so healthy. The food I prepare for my son is still without salt, sugar, oil, etc. Those food are just very plain.
I usually cook his food with a few ingredients, either pork, chicken or fish, add some vegetables, carrots, tomato, dried scallop, mushroom, beans, tofu, etc. Sometimes I'll cook porridge, rice, angel hair pasta, with soup. Although there's no salt or any seasonings added, the food is quite tasty too. I didn't expect the food to be so tasty that I also can eat.
What do you usually prepare for your kids when they are under 2 years old? When do you start giving them to eat the normal food?

Times have sure changed in the rules of feeding children just from the time my first son was born & 20 years later when my 2nd was born. The dr. told me to start feeding my first at 3 weeks, just pablum. They didn't want me to feed my 2nd one till he was 6 months old but i did. I just fed him baby food .I think they need something before 6 months.

Hi there, thanks for your response.
The doctor asked you to start feeding pablum when the baby was just 3 weeks? I'm wondering if the little stomach can really digest that. I've been reading books about bringing up babies, and most of them recommended babies to start eating food when they are at least 4 months old.
Yeah, I did give my son baby cereal when he reached 6 months old.

Hi,
When my son reached 18 months old, I have started to offer him
the normal food that I am eating myself,of course, not those heaty or
hard digest food. At least, I let him try those food that easy for him
to chew and digest.
I cook myself,so less salt is definitely added to my own food.
We seldom dine out,so home cooked meal is always the best
for my family.
With little kid around, it is not good to always dine out as outside
food may not be that healthy.

Both of my children were about a year old when I started to feed them exclusively table food. Or the same kinds of food that we were eating on a regular basis. The reason that I started feeding them the foods that we were eating at that time was because that was the point that they lost interest in baby food and they would both get very mad if they weren't able to eat the same foods that we were eating for a meal. I do try to cook healthy for our family, so it didn't bother me at all to transition them to the same diet that we were eating.

Here in Germany after their 1st birthday children are given all food. As eurropian people don't eatr hot eatable it is ok for children also. Children are expected to get used to normal tradional meals. As your son is 19 months old little by little you can give everything without chilli.

I think "normal food" is the same thing you are feeding your son. That's really healthy and I think adults should eat it too.

Well, to save money, I gave my kids homemade baby food which is pretty much normal food just minus the extra spices and steamed to soften it and hold the nutrients. Mash it up and it's good to go! All my kids started eating this around 6 months.

under two years old my wife give the normal food already. she is the one who cooks at home and so i trust her. she started to give our son mushed banana when our son was four months old. then from then on i see her feed our son mashed potatoes, just plain potatoes no milk no salt. i also see her give oatmeal as he turned 9 months. when he was one he can eat all kinds of mushed veggies with porridge. i also see her give freshly squeeze orange juice to our son when he turned 6 months but i dont know how she prepare it. if she puts water or give it pure. now our son is four and he eats everything except chocolates and candies and he does not drink cola. he is a very healthy boy.

Hello my friend kaka135 Ji,
Well our youngest grand-son is just younger by two months or so from your son and takes almost everything what is prepared in our kitchen, he is still mother-fed. In fact, our side we have a ceremony known as 'ANNA-PRASHAN', also known as feeding ceremoney, first time 'KHEER ( ALSO KNOWN AS PAYSAM)-PREPARED OUT OF MILK/SUGAR ADDD WITH SOME SMALL GRILLED DRY-FRUITS AND KESRA, is given with lot of pomp show. Normally it is Right of every grand father to feed his grand children for the first time, then only liguid subji/dal etc. is given and by 9-10 month children get teeth, so that they can chew easily. But at present my grand son takes what he likes. Take care.
May God bless You and have a great time.

My son is already 5 yo!! And he still won't eat many foods, like fried chicken, big chunks of meat and the kinds... He only eats soft foods like noodles, bread, some veggies, hamburger, burger steak, pasta, rice with soup, etc.... On fruits he only eats banana and mango and nothing else. But he is healthy so I am not so worried. So you shouldn't worry too as long as he is healthy and eating healthy foods.
