Hello folks, I have a laptop, Acer 4740G one. I often work using that baby. Sometimes I will turn it on continuously for over 12 hours. Well, I know it is actually not safe turning on a laptop for a long time. But I can't help it. I should. For your information, I place my laptop inside a room with air conditioner, and I install a cooling fan under it. So, please let me know what's the best for me to do.

Depends a lot on the cooling system. Getting a heat disapeating pad for it can help a lot. As can blowing the dust out. Make sure you have a screen blanker set as well. I have had some laptops running 24/7 for over five years now, and another that can't stay on for over four hours without overheating (damn nvidia's defective chips a couple of years back).

I see! So, I have to really pay attention to the cooling system then. Plus, I think old laptop can survive more compared to the new one. Thanks for sharing.

I think you are asking about how long you should keep your laptop on before giving it a rest? Well, it doesn't really matter how long just as long as you are meeting the cooling requirements and it does sound as though you are doing this. If your laptop overheats then you will certainly know about it as it will shut down automatically allowing the laptop to cool down by itself before it can be used again. They sell these cooling plates that you can purchase and you basically rest the laptop on top of this whilst you are using it. This plate has two to three cooling fans on it so it does the job of keeping the laptop cool. I wouldn't worry too much about the status of your laptop as regards whether it is overheating or not. I think you are doing ok at present by the sounds of things! Andrew

Absolutely. I was scared it would damage my laptop quicker, that was why I wanted to know the best solution, and I am glad I am able to meet the requirement. Thank you for your comment.
