Is it possible to earn without upgrading?

I need an advice! I'm trying to earn some money online but I can't find direct referrals and it's going really slow. I can't afford to upgrade too. I rented referrals on neobux and onbux though and for some time now I try to manage them. But I still make too much expenses for recycling and renewing them and I have no profit at all. So I came to the question - is it possible to make a profit with rented referrals without making an upgrade? I'd appreciate any suggestions!
