I have found studies that Playing Video games can de-stress individuals up to 3 times more efficient than sleeping and relaxing...I do play video games during stressful times, I noticed that it can de-stress me in a matter of 2 hours .. compared to an 8 hour sleep. What do you think about this? Do you have similar experience?

I don't really knw about destressing faster than sleeping, although I do know that playing computer games can help to de-stress a person. In a way, it's a good de-stress in short-term means as it distracts you into a different world, away from whatever is stressing you out - but once you come off the console, then you're back to reality, it also depends what kind of game you've been playing too - normally computer games hike your adrenaline levels up so you could easily become stressed again as soon you're back into reality. With a good night's sleep, if you're able to get one and that you're not worrying during the time, sleep can help you relax and recover. During sleep time, your brain re-organises itself, your body heals and you wake up in a relaxed state. So if you're stressed from tiredness and exhaustion, definitely sleep is the best, also having a good night's sleep will better prepare you for whatever is worrying you and you're more likely to solve problems with a clear mind... :)

I usually play video games right before i go to bed each night. It is fun and they cause me to get tired after a while and falling asleep is really easy. The people that say First person shooting games corrupt people's mind do not know what they are talking about. It seems very rare that someone would play like Grand theft auto, and then go try to rob a bank.

I think it can go either way. Playing video games can de-stress you for sure for a certain amount of time. But as what they say too much of something is not good, same rules apply to video games. That's why my maximum playing time is only 3 hours any longer than that and I feel myself having a headache.

If this is true then why in the world are we all stressed after running a full clear in Icecrown Citadel? After wiping for almost all the time and a tiring 7-hr raid we finally downed Lich King in our server. Well, at least I can say that the stress was replaced with extreme satisfaction and pride when we downed the Lich King!

yes i have the same experience. its kind of magical how video games can de-stress so well. the funny thing is you had all these biased people coming out and trashing video games and now studies are coming out and saying the opposite. one other study recently came out and said action based games can help improve better decision making in peoples lives. so actually those 3d based shooters are not so bad after all and just to think they actually thought about classifying video game addiction as a mental disorder. however, i still think too much gaming can be bad.

This is not true for me. I am not a big fan of video games but play on occasion with my daughter. I find they do the opposite for me, they stress me, that is probably why I don't play them too much. If I played video games before bed I wouldn't be able to sleep. I guess it really depends on your tastes for what you find relaxing.

I am not of this opinion. I don't think playing video game can de-stress us more than sleeping or relaxing. I thing playing certain video games can increase our stress. Also long hours of playing video games can cause problems in our mental activities. I have even heard some studies saying it can adversely affect students in their study. For releasing stress i recommend you to do meditation or yoga or something like that. Listening to music will also help.
