Are you handy around the house or do you need to hire people to do home repairs?

I let the cat of the bag so to speak last year when my dad got sick and couldn't finish the work on the new addition to mom and dads kitchen and bath rooms.I took over and drywalled it,sanded and all, then painted it all, dobbyed the ceiling for them to get the drippy look. Then this year my husband said if you know how why can't you do our new rooms? So here I went ,I finished and now everyone will say to him ,Man you did a good job, and he will look at me and laugh ,and say well, you need to be saying that to her, not me,she did it all.LOL!

I'm very handy around the house. My dad was a carpenter and had no boys, so being the oldest, I was the one who tagged along. He taught me how to do everything, and I could build my own house, including electical and plumbing. I will usually do my own repairs. I used to be very good at working on my car also. But that was before they put all the new fangled computer stuff under the hood. I love doing any kind of trade labor, and would rather be on the roof than in the kitchen any day.

I am pretty handy around the house. what I can't do, my hubby does. And when all else fails we just call the landlord to fix the expensive stuff.

I prefer to do it my myself. :) The internet is filled with information. When the dryer broke the other week, all I had to do was look up the dryer's blueprint of the how everything went and where and my partner and I fixed it ourselves. :) Among many other things, I always to look up the information to figure out how to fix it myself. You gotta love the internet! :)

Yes I'm a handy person and i like to do everything that i can do around the house, that includes: electricity, plumping, fixing things, etc. It's easy because I have experience and a good collection of tools for everything, I also can fix/repair computers and usually don't resort to hire someone to help unless i don't have the time or the proper tools to do it.

I can fix some things around the house. For other things, I need to enlist help from my dad or brother.

Army wife - Proud Army wife
I am a military wife whose husband is gone all the time. I have to be handy or we would never get anything done. If I cant do it I usually have a friend who can. But I can do most of the minor stuff. Also I can do basic maitence on my car!! Whooo hooo.

I am able to fix the smaller things, like a sweeper that has messed up or a screen that needs to be replaced. But when it comes to the major items, fridge, furnace, a/c, stuff like that I call a repair man. I would probably mess them up even more if I tried to fix those lol.

Yes. I was a single mom for a couple of years so I did my best to learn what I needed to know.

I can do alot of things - repairing walls and trim, painting, laying ceramic tile, regrouting tile, reglazing windows, rehanging doors. I can even repair shingles on the roof when our Texas winds blow them off although I am terrified of heights and it takes me longer to get up and down the ladder than it does to actually make the repairs. I can do really simple plumbing like changing washers or putting new guts in a washerless faucet or replacing putty around drains but I won't even try to put in new faucets or anything that complicated. And I refuse to even try anything electrical. I'm not worried so much about eletrocuting myself as I am about doing it all wrong and burning down the house because of my bad wiring.

I can do quite a few small things, but if it is important to get some job done quickly or professionally, we get it done by some one who does such things for a living.
