ASP.net Web Application Plugin Architecture

I've developed a Plugin Architecture for Desktop Applications using .Net framework. Is it possible to apply a Plugin Architecture on ASP.Net Web Applications? Some Content Management Systems (e.g Joomla) implements a Plugin Architecture. If this can be done in asp.net applications could this be practical? How about its performance?
