They've Done It To Us Again!!! (pulls hair out)

In their bid to save money & improve profits, the toilet paper manufacturers changed their product from 2-ply to 1-ply. We all screamed on this one. Recently I noticed that they were going back to 2-ply & was wondering why??? My local store had a really good sale on the brand I prefer & I bought 2 packs. I remember thinking...the package looks odd. Well, I opened the pack a couple days back. When I put it on the holder, it was obvious to me what they are doing now to increase their profits. The width of the roll is 25% shorter.. Yes, the roll is double in diameter of the regular roll, but the length of the spool it's wound on is 25% shorter. I've also noticed the size of the regular roll just keeps getting smaller so doubling the regular roll means we're getting less too. I guess I should be happy to just have toilet paper, but this really pissses me off!!!!
NO pun intended!!!!

I'm glad you said "pissses me off" and not "SHlT!" That would probably use more of what they're giving us less of.
This really is sad, when they feel they have to short-change us on one of life's necessities. I guess we have no choice but to pay, unless you don't mind going back to the days of old and using leaves or corncobs.
It's such a shame that these huge manufacturers can't forego extra profits right now, when the world is going crazy. I'm sure they're making profits without giving us less for the same money; toilet paper is definitely something that most people will not cut down on!
Oh, how I despise the greedy!

The problem is the shareholders who insist that they get dividends regularly. The company has to make a profit in order to pay those dividends or the shareholders will sell the stock, making it worth less and creating a rolling snowball of loss as profits go down because of loss of capital, etc. It's one of the drawbacks of the way we've built our particular form of capitalism.

Do you know they must think we are stupid and do not notice things like that lol
I know what you are saying though and yes it is very annoying when they do this because not just the fact we are being robbed but also because they think that we the Customers are so stupid that we would not notice

I thought the smaller rolls were smaller. Didn't pay much attention because when I need toilet paper I just grab it. Also wondered why we had been going through so much. I agree, we can be very thankful we have it available. Paper towels are a little rough and kleenex just doesn't cut it!

When I was a child, my grandparents had an outhouse & we used Sears catalogs for toilet paper, so I REALLY appreciate my toilet paper!!! I worry that if the rolls get any smaller, I'll have to go back to catalogs.
I don't know how a family even affords toilet paper now!!!!
I live alone & sometimes wonder who is sneaking in at night & using it up???

Yeah, and while they're shorting us in volume they're bragging about how soft it is--some TP has become so soft that it's like mush and is rather disgusting to me.
I buy Angel Soft, $1.19 for 4 2-ply rolls and I haven't noticed their rolls are smaller. I just got a 12 count double roll pack for $5.97 which is about $.25 per roll when you consider they're double rolls. I should have compared the two packages, single and double, and seen the square footage count.
Nearly everyone is cutting quality and quantity and raising prices. That's because the recession was over last year, according to some Harvard economists, or haven't you heard?

Mentalward, I don't run out! I'm a survivalist, a planner, and I always keep about 50 rolls in my rotating stash--that's the minimum!

Maybe they're trying to phase out the single rolls because they're not cost-effective. I know that I would rather buy double or triple-rolls over the single rolls because I hate running out of toilet paper, especially at the absolutely worst time possible.
The more there is on the roll, the less often that problem could happen.
I never would have thought that so much could be said about toilet paper. Awesome discussion you started here, Marissa!

Yes, I heard...but it doesn't mean I believe!!!
The double rolls are twice the single roll. It's the single roll that keeps shrinking!!!
