Too much mobile texting had a really negative effect on my writing and spelling. i noticed that a lot of times today; i did a lot of shortcuts while i was typing, missed a lot of letters, got my words spelled wrong, even my grammar got a bit off! and it's not at all funny. ways i did to cope with it: been reading a lot again, posting on mylot helped too(aside from earning, i can also practice), i try to text completely unless it's really necessary to do the shortcut thing. hw abt u? hv u had d same efect frm 2 mch txtng? hw r u dealing wd 8? ha-ha-ha!

It translates to "texting has put your brain to sleep while making your fingers faster". I learnt this lingo from my younger son!

I totally forgot the right spelling of some words. I mean, I used to write for our school paper when I was in elementary, high school then on college I earn by doing other's term papers. But now, I am trying to learn the right grammar and right spelling back again. My younger sister who is also a member of the student press always laugh at me because my spelling and my grammar totally needs improvement. But the good thing about texting was that when I gone through a post-graduate study, we had this subject wherein we are taught on how to take notes and to transcribe. And since I am used to texting, I didn't have a hard time in that subject.

yeah i know how you feel. i have the same sentiments as you have; been a writer too back in my university days. i even got in to a delegation for copyreading and now i don't spell right? really sucks! so anyway, you're right about shortcut-ing (is that right??haha) having it's advantages too. i studied accounting in college so when my instructors had too much info to discuss and only numbers and solutions fit the visual aids, note-taking was a breeze for me because i text a lot and do it without even looking. talk about talent here! haha. but seriously, aside from that, it's not all good. i hope kids of this generation practice more of doing some writing and not take much of their time on their mobiles.

Me too, I experienced that also. Previously, I'm a text addict I always shortcut the words that's why I forgot the right spelling of some words then.

Hi, Nikramos.:) Or is it niCkramos. Did you miss that one out ,too? LOL Well, kidding aside, I have no problem like yours. Before I could learn to text ds way,my bf (my husband now) 2ld me nt 2.LOL He hated it so much that it took me longer to reply to his texts and that he had difficulties reading them, too.:) I was having difficulties transcribing the words into such from of new words, as well. Then, he asked me if my unit supports predictive messaging (T9) , I checked my unit and it indeed supports such feature. So, a little tinkering and I get to familiarize myself with the way to use it.It helps. I get to text faster and my spelling are all right as well as my grammar. Well, there's nothing that supports grammatically correct construction of words but at least you get to spell the words correctly.:) It is a plus factor for me since I am working in a corporate world and I get to text a lot of high profile personalities in the business world. I gives an impressive impression as well as a sign of maturity and intelligence, too. Use that feature, dear. What's with a few cents to spend, anyway if you are doing the right thing? :)

Yes my grammar and typing has really been suffering. I have to admit it is the texting that is causing my proper grammar to lack. I see it here even, where members are starting discussions with text lingo, it saddens me that society today is doing this as it is of utmost importance to be able to utilize the English language well.

Thats interesting! I was a horrible speller when I was in grade school. I couldnt spell anything. Then I started reading. After I read my first book on a school assignment I got addicted to reading. I read everything I could get my hands on. I turned into a much better speller. I guess just from reading the correct spelling of words all the time I learned unintentionally to spell well. I do use shortcuts all the time when I am sending txt messages so I know what you mean. Sometimes when I write things on facebook I use shortcuts like... 2 u cldnt etc.. I have to stop and correct myself and write it right so other people can read it correctly.

You can take a lot of word shortcuts when you text on your cellphone. there is no need to spell words the way they are written. it can hinder your spelling and vocabulary by taking these shortcuts all of the time. We need to know how words are spelled and used grammatically. Shortcuts are nice but they can lead to laziness in our language skills.

I suggest you start writing about anything. This is just to practice writing normally again. I had the same case but i straightened it out by just writing a journal or whatever to fix it.

same as you, I had trouble with my spelling since i did texting. True, frequent reading helped in minimizing that problem although i still have some difficulties in a spelling a few words. Since i write fics, somehow my grammar is saved.

I have unlimited texting so I do not do short cuts because the other person may not understand me...

Wow I know exactly what you mean! I remember using short cuts in my writing too. Now I do my best to spell all my words out completely. Even when I text or I'M I spell everythig out completely and correctly. You'll get used to it again very quickly like I did.

I think your short texting habit makes some problem now. So now if you want to work on mylot so now you may avoid your short texting habits. And I want to give you a good suggestion. When you starting any discussions or responding to any discussions then open a word editor like MS word. And you can write your discussions or response their. Because I tell you this because if you make any mistakes then those words blink by a red line and also world automatically correct your spell mistakes. So it is best for you. But I think you have no facility of copy paste in your mylot profile. Because as I see your posting now is under 200 so you can’t able for copy paste. Until reached on 500 posting.
