How do you feel about teaching babies and toddlers sign language to better communicate with your child. This is a new phase of parenting that has recently been going around. Moms of today are teaching their babies sign language on the basic words to better communicate with their child. They are teaching words like more, juice, water, drink, eat, etc.. Why or why dont you think this is a bad or good idea. Here are some websites on more information on teaching a baby sign language. http://www.signingbaby.com/ http://www.babysigns.com/ http://www.sign2me.com/ http://www.handspeak.com/

I do this with my 20 month old. We have been for over a year. It's fabulous. He loves it, it's fun for us. He is better able to communicate and he feels very accomplished when he gets a new sign. Because he is just learning to talk, his pronunciation is imperfect and sometimes hard to understand. If he is able to add a sign, (generally imperfect, too!) the two together will help us figure out what he means. It reduces frustration for all of us and is fun.

Wonderful! I have a friend who is doing that and it is wonderful. Her son is doing great. I am surprised that since the 70's and Lucy the chimp in Norman, OK did it, why we didn't start our children then. There are time that I wish I knew how so I could converse with others. I think you have inspired me to learn now. Thankyou for a wonderful thread!

ive never used this, nor will we.He is a baby, he should be able to stay a baby & not have to learn how to talk early.I can pick up what he wants easily, so i have no need for it.But i guess for a restless bubs, it would be a lifesavere.

I think it is awsome, anything we can do to teach our children to communicate with someone that is different is doing them a huge favor.
