If you are given a raise and you are not satisfied, what would you do?

It is frustrating to feel that you are not compensated with the hard work that you have been doing. Sometimes, instead of being grateful, you feel disappointed because after a few years, you will be given just a small amount for a raise. But still, we always have to be grateful of the unexpected things that come our way especially if not everybody is recognized, and only you and a few are. Organizations have different culture. In some companies, feedback is welcomed. But in some, to ask why you were only given a small amount of money for a raise is like you are questioning the company's prerogative. I think you know that it is obvious that I will not do anything. For me, recognition should not be asked, it should be given. They should have recognized the effort to give me a raise not because I asked for it.

I think these days even though it is not much compensation, it is very good to be thankful. I always figure that if it's coming in I can use it better than if it wasn't! Even though I would like more I would try to be glad that I got some more, I could have received no increase at all!

very wise thoughts, macdolinger. it is good to receive something we can use than not receiving anything at all.

Oh I have experienced this once and or twice. I remember my last raise it took my boss 2 full weeks to think about what would be my WORTH! He is not good in this area and literally said to me I am afraid to offer you a raise as no amount of money in the world could compensate your worth. Okay, maybe I could have been flattered but this was the same speech the year before. I told him why was it too difficult for him to compensate me my so deserved hard earnings. I told him let's get to it before his speech wore off. He chuckled and offered me a measly raise and well I told him I would have preferred a million dollars as you stated my worth had no dollar sign, however that I was grateful and went on with normal business. Well although I was not happy with the dollar amount of the raise, I had no choice as this was the same meeting I had with him well over 12 years. I returned to my normal duties, working as diligently as I had before the raise, although not very happy with the amount I sure glad I had a job at the time. Anyways my response to him was very positive as I handsomely received several additional bonuses through out the year. I suppose I made him feel guilty as my work ethics remained the same. I love to kill people with kindness..

that would be more difficult to not be receiving a raise for many years. but sometimes we have to look at the company's situation. is the market for your company that good? if the answer is yes then maybe it is time to ask for one. i believe as employees we must be always thankful about the fact that we have a job. but it is still is sad not to be recognized.
