to sit backwards on regular toilet as part of potty training? As I understand, this is a regular practice in some families. I am currently attempting to train my son. And have helped in the training of 2 of my nephews. Our practice is to have them sit down and point (IT) down. Just curious which method do/have you used?

I've always used the "point it down" method. It usually makes a little mess because they aren't always good at pointing it down, especially at first when we're waiting to catch the first potty.. but I don't mind a bit of mess. I'm having no luck at all with my youngest. We tried the potty for awhile, even caught him going once.. but we were always out of the house and you know it's not easy to potty train when you're never home.. so I put it on hold for the summer. Now the kids are back in school and I bought a portable potty seat to try it again.. but he wants no part of it. I sat him on it the other day and he only cried, and I ask him a few times a day if he wants to try and he says no. I know he'll get it eventually.. I just wish he'd be more willing to try because diapers are so expensive and he drinks non stop all day so he can go through a diaper an hour sometimes.

We used the regular method of having them sit down the same way they would in a chair. I've never heard of your method but if it works for you then by all means train them that way. Eventually they will begin to sit normally or standard as many people have to in order use the bathroom facilities.
