Drinking coffee and/or tea affect our body. Those are anti-oxidants, meaning, if you sometimes have a headache or feel sleepy drinking coffee or tea can get rid of it. Unfortunately, for some people, if the caffeine content is too high and they're not so used to it, then palpitation is experienced.

Coffee has a chemical substance and is also a stimulant called caffeine. In recent studies, drinking coffee can make you energetic because it makes the nerve cell increase there performance. But the later part, it can also damage your brain since if you drink too much coffee you will experiencing insomia because it will be very hard for you to sleep due to the effect of the caffeine in the brain. Also, it causes the heart to pump faster due to the stimuli effect of the caffeine. For me, you can drink coffee or tea moderately. ^_^

Most probably it was the mixture that gave you mixed feelings, an increase in heart beats, and possibly some sweating. Even though both tea and coffee contain caffeine, they contain other chemicals which act in contrasting ways. For example coffee in general causes a person to become or feel energetic. On the other hand tea is a relaxant. Imagine two persons pulling you to do opposite things, and imagine what your reaction would be. Your mind would not stop thinking, you feel nervous since there are two opposing forces bearing down on you. You want to be left alone. That basically was what happened to you. Anti-oxidants help to slow down the ageing process. They do not give you headaches.

I think each people responding differently to coffee or tea, I happen to know someone who is not affected by drinking coffee, they can drink coffee and sleep just fine. But most people will be affected, like myself, I have to drink coffee every morning and I limited myself to 2 cups a day, and I wont'n drink coffee at night cause I could have the same effect that you have. Same thing with tea, tea also contain caffeine, although people say not as much as coffee, but still if you drank tea at night you might not be able to sleep, as this also have happened to me once, I now drink only water after 8pm every night.
