Have you heard of Ghosts in Haunted Places...

Castell Coch - Castell Coch. The Welsh Castle that is said to be haunted by woman looking for her lost son and has two vicious eagles guarding treasure in tunnels below.

There are many ghost and legend stories her in the U.K. and some are right here in Wales, where I was born. There is a "fairy-tale" castle here in South Wales (see picture) that was built a few hundred years ago on the site of an old fortress, and there is a ghost story about a mother who wanders the grounds looking for her child who fell into a bottom-less pit many hundreds of years ago in the woodland that surround it. Many people have claimed to have seen it, but I've looked long and hard and never seen anything. I am the sort of person who would love to see a ghost, then I would know for certain that they existed... There is also a legend connected with the castle that there is valuable treasure in the tunnels underneath that are guarded by two eagles. The legend goes that two men found the treasure with two stone eagles that suddenly sprang to life and chased them out. Apparently they tried to get past them 3 times.. Once would have been enough for me! Do you have ghost stories from where you live? Have you ever seen such a ghost? _Derek

Hi Derek. I was expecting the castle to look much more evil than it does. It actually looks like a cute fairy tale castle. I guess ghosts do not pick their haunting places based on appearances like you would imagine they do in the movies and cartoons! My wife says that she has felt a presence here in our house and heard things go bang in the middle of the night. She has also heard footsteps up the hall she says. I have not heard any of these things, or felt a presence of any sort, but a few years ago we did have a whole heap of glasses fall of a shelf and smash on the kitchen floor for no apparent reason. We also lost a big vase that was part of our wedding table arrangement. We had it securely on top of our fridge until it decided to topple off and smash on the floor around the same time. We were all in the next room at the time. No one was any where near these things when they fell, we just heard the smash and turned around to see glass everywhere. It was pretty weird. When we bought the house we were told that an old lady had passed away some years before in our bath so my wife thinks it was her. She told "the ghost" one night that it was ok for her to pass onto the next world and that she was not needed or wanted here anymore. Apparently since then, my wife has heard nothing more and not sensed anything either.

Thanks for posting Bill. Yes, I love this castle, called Castell Coch and it can be seen from the main road as one drives into the South Wales Valleys. It was built by the Marquess of Bute (a very rich man) on the site of a very old fortress and no expense was spared. He employed an architect who had a passion for medieval architecture and his work can be seen all over the city of Cardiff, South Wales. That's a fascinating ghost story of the ghost in your house. I guess ghosts do not always choose creepy castles or ancient sites, but I guess the land that all our houses are built on has been there since the planet was formed, so it's all pretty ancient anyway. _Derek

Yes, you are right. The buildings here in Australia are not very old compared to other countries around the world, but you often hear of housing developments being built upon old forgotten Aboriginal burial sites.

I grew up in Hawaii so there are countless stories about ghosts, obake, night marchers and menahune's. Every area has their share and right now even in California where I'm at now there are ghost stories. In Hawaii there were so many places said to be haunted. The University dorms were even haunted and it was a stop in the Ghost tours that used to happen. The reason for so many haunting's is the destruction of sacred grounds and disturbing burial sites. The mall across of where I used to live was told to have a Faceless lady wondering around the woman's bathroom. I personally have never seen anything, but if there was a tale to be told, I wanted to hear it.

seeing one would be great. but sadly, nothing yet. My husband has seen something in our apartment. And I did have a dream about a woman being in here while he told me he sees a woman sometimes watch him from our bathroom at night. She hasn't been around, but a little boy recently darted into our room from the hallway with my husband watching it. He's more sensitive to spirits and can sense and sometimes see them. my brother in law as well see's things now and again and my sister in low (my husbands sister) had conversations with ghosts when she was younger. it just kinda sucks nothing happens to me even though I want it to so much.

Maybe you need a third eye to see ghost. I too have not encountered one before but the present dwelling that I am occupying now is famous for ghost sighting. Many people have experienced seeing ghostly figures roaming around except me. And the road fronting the property is a killer road. Though it is a straight road but prone to accidents. Drivers claimed that they saw white horse, big rocks suddenly crossing the road and they tried to avoid hitting the objects ending their vehicles turning turtle. One big bungalow which I rented out has high rate of tenants turnover. The invisible beings keep appearing sending the tenants packing and leaving the house immediately. The property was once owned by a witch practitioner. According to reliable sources, he no longer able to feed his alien helpers so he sold the property to my father leaving his witchcraft helpers behind.

Thank you for posting. Yes, it seems as if we need a third eye so see a ghost, and perhaps I just have a third ear! I like the story of a practitioner of witchcraft leaving his helpers behind. I would imagine it would be a very interesting place to stay the night. I wonder if I would see anything then, or just feel or hear things. _Derek

In the town I live in (Hemel Hempstead,UK)it is said that a highwayman was hung he was the last highway man to be hung and a single gravestone marks his grave. If you run round the seven trees behind his grave at midnight, seven times,it is said you can see his ghost hanging from the tree. I have seen a ghost myself I saw the ghost of my partners mother leaning over him one morning. My daughter and one of my sons have also seen the ghost of our old cat he is often seen to go into my daughters bedroom curl up and go to sleep. But there has been many strange happenings in my house.

Well this is what I haven't heard - a haunted house with no ghosts! No, I have not really seen one. And I wouldn't actually wish for it. I definitely would just die of too much fear just in case. I do surf the net though and am quite fond of ghost stories in old manors, or castles in Europe, well not entirely interested on the ghosts but the architecture of the buildings. Creepy but beautiful.

Thanks for responding. Yes, I am fascinated by ghost stories and legends and often read a few on-line if I have the time. I often think how great it would be to live back in the times when people believed in magic and wizardry. _Derek

There are hundreds of such stories. In our childhood we use to enjoy hearing these make-believe stories. Now it seems so silly and foolish.

Yes, it may feel silly and foolish now, but I think that on websites such as myLot we can talk about these beliefs and really enjoy them - whether or not they are true.. _Derek

Hi, I haven't seen any ghost in my life. But I listen some stories about them. One boy come to our for tuition. He is poor and he was working in the movie theater. He has to say there for late night. He told us that in that theater there was lady ghost with white sari. She used to wonder there and put off the lights. I don't believe on this story. But he said that he has seen this lady ghost. Believe it or not.
