October Is Fast On Its Way! Do You Celebrate Halloween?

October is quickly approaching and with October comes Haloween. Everyone starts decorating there front yards for Haloween about the middle of October. Some get very extragant in their decorations. I've seen the whole front yard and front of the house decorated, some even use sound effects and animated characters. All the children dress up in costumes and go around door to door trick or treating, hoping to get candy from their neighbors. We still decorate the house and the front entrance and door as my youngest daughter insists upon it. My children are all older now and only one still goes trick or treating with her friends, but she usually doesn't stay out too long. We usally stock up on treats for the goblins and for ourselves and have a movie night. We watch Haloween themed movies and horror flicks. It is a fun time. What do you do in your area for Haloween? What activities do you plan for your family?

I went out trick-or-treating until high school. When I got to middle school- because we were on a military base and going in a group- we were allowed to go without an adult. I always thought it was a lot of fun. My parents loved decorating the house. High school I didn't do much. I never dressed up, and we never really handed out candy because there's no sense of community in our neighborhood- everyone goes out to other neighborhoods to get candy. Now I'm in college in NYC and I've dressed up most years. I love going to the Halloween parade in the village- it's so much fun and some of the costumes are spectacular. I went shopping recently and I got all excited for the future, when I'll have a family of my own to celebrate Halloween with. I always thought it was a lot of fun as a kid (except haunted houses- I had a very bad experience at age 5).

That parade sounds like so much fun, I wish they did that here. My youngest is in her secomd year of high school, I was a bit surprised when she told me she was going out again this year, but she said to me, "Mom, your only young once and I'm not wasting a minute of it, I'm going out till they chase me and tell me I'm too old!" . She has a very good out look on everything, lol. I have know my husband's family since I was a child and I took his little brother out trick-or-treating when he was five and a lady dressed as a witch at one of the houses we took him to scared him so bad we couldn't get him to stay out. He never enjoyed Haloween again. he is an adult now but still hates it. Have a great Haloween!

October 2010 - Pumpkin Season
Awwh, this is making me sad. I was big on Halloween as I went all out decorating and getting the kids their wild Halloween outfits. It happened to be my most favorite holiday of the year. With the kids away out to college, and having no longer own my house and now into a very small apartment I barely even notice it is the Halloween season. No decorations, no children at the door and no one to make so excited that it was trick or treat time. So last year my boyfriend took me to an Artistic Theater Halloween Party and it was a blast. He dressed as a bizarre Priest and I was dressed as a wild teen Catholic School girl. So maybe we will have to do the same this year or I will be very depressed. It is this type of Halloween that makes me miss my kids so very much. Have a wonderful Halloween.

Oh, sorry hardworkinggurl, I know how it can be missing your kids. Two of mine have left the nest and the other two are growing up too fast, they do their own thing now. Only one goes trick or treating and she don't want Mom along anymore. Seems they are doing more and more without their good old pal Mom. But adult custome parties can be fun too! I use to go sometimes when hubby was still well. We had a lot of fun, I think the last one we went to we dressed as the Grim Reaper and Vampira, what a blast that was! Go out with your boyfriend for Haloween, have fun, don't stay home and be depressed, life is too short. You have a great Haloween too!

I used to hand out candy, but no one comes to our house where we live now. They only go to homes of friends and relatives. We aren't the age of anyone who has kids. I never get any substitute teaching work before Halloween. So the kids don't come here. Most of my subbing wasn't in my school district anyway.

Oh. I do enjoy the little ones coming to the door for treats. I get a lot kids from my neighborhood because we have been here a long time as my children grew up here, so we know many families in the area. I've lived places though that we didn't get many kids. I remember very well when my children were young taking them out, sometimes it was not so fun when it was a cold night.
