...you stop shoving it the hell down my throat! Yeah yeah yeah the environment is important but you're not going to get people to join you in your corner if you threaten those of us who don't feel like using reusable bags, driving hybrids, walking, riding a bike, etc. Sorry, I just had to get that off my chest. Care to tell me why people get to up in arms about it? Can't you just do your part and shut up? Why do I have to keep hearing about it?

I have to agree. Although I've always had a little green bent, I don't want anyone shoving it in my face. It doesn't help that I don't agree with some of their ideas, either. It's costly to the environment to recycle many things, so they're not "saving" much at all. And what about plastic bags? When they quit manufacturing plastic garbage bags, I'll pay attention. Ok, maybe more than you asked, but still...

I'm just so tired of all the people going on about reusable bags. I actually LIKE my wimpy obnoxious one time use nothing little plastic bags that I ask my groceries to be bagged in. Granted I think I may ask for some paper bags soon but only because I found a cool craft project that I need paper bags for that my daughter and her friends can do with construction paper and paint. My biggest thing is that I often feel inconvenienced by all the things people want you to do, and I simply don't have the time nor the desire. It's not that I don't care, it's just that I don't care AS MUCH as people who will be inconvenienced for nothing.

I understand the convenience aspect. I reuse the plastic bags for trash and other things. If I didn't do that, I'd have to buy plastic bags made for that reason, so what's the difference? No one has explained that one to me yet. :)

LOL! I reuse the plastic grocery bags too - to carry snacks for kids, extra clothes, for wet swimming things, for trash in the car, and to put in my little trash cans at home. They certainly do SELL small trash bags but why buy them if I have a constant supply for free?

You keep hearing about it because politically correct (pc) liberal "do- gooders" but not BE-Gooders, worship the creation and not the Creator. They are, to say the least, quite annoying.

Amen and amen, mommy. Better they should be morally correct, but they have no concept of that. I love your idea!

hi mommyboo I have got to that point too as enough is enough.,I told the resident here that fussed at me because I got my purchases in plastic, leave me be as I always recycle these anyway. She was trying to get me to buy her cloth shopping bags she had for sale. I had already told her I had no more money so talk to someone else. I had to almost run to get away from her. I did not want that dratted reusable bag and I had thought I had made that very plain. from now on when I see her in the halls here I duck aside as I do not want to be harangued about that reuseable bag. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.I am with you enough is enough.

LOL! I actually have a few reusable bags that I have been given as freebies from various places. I don't use them. I've tried to explain to people that it just isn't something I'm into or necessarily care about, so harping on it to me will do no good because I just don't care. Nobody can make me care either, I just don't. I have more important things in my life to be concerned about

Incentives would work a whole lot better than lectures or threats. Still, if we ever actually get to the point where our petroleum reserves are depleted, and we can't use plastic bags any more or drive gasoline cars, I suppose there will be a lot of "greens" saying they told us so...

I'm not worried about anything like that happening in my lifetime, my daughter's lifetime, or my grandkids lifetime. Truthfully I'm not. I don't know why people are so freaking doom and gloom but I've had it up to here with them and I'm no longer listening to any of their spiel because it was nothing when they started and it's still nothing now. I actually enjoy poking fun at them because if anybody will say 'I told you so' it'll be ME lol. Incentives would actually be a nice thing, because SOME people would make different choices in order to take advantage of the incentives. I may or may not, depending on how much of an inconvenience it was to me. If I was going to make back a LOT of extra money, I might sometimes, but other times.... blah, who cares. Either way, I would never do it to impress anybody or for any other reason than it benefitted me more than it inconvenienced me.

Why do people get in arms about it? Because it is important, that's why. And people care about the state that the planet is in. No one should be threatening you about it though! The planet is in serious trouble and going downhill fast. We have done incredible damage to this planet over the last couple of hundred years since the agricultural revolution in particular. We are fast running out of topsoil to grow food in, the populations are growing too quickly and the waterways and the air are becoming badly polluted. If we do not all do everything that we can, there will not be a planet earth to call home in a couple of hundred more years. Do you want to be part of the generation that destroyed the earth, or part of the generation that helped to turn it around and saved the earth? I am passionate about helping the environment the best I can and I do not like to force the matter onto people, but some people just need to be pushed a little so that they can open their eyes and see what is going on. I know that I did initially!

Hi there mommyboo: Environmentalists are usually peace-loving entities, I've come across a few of them in the course of my work. Some are nice, some are quite activists, and some can't just apply what they advocate, but I still have to meet one who threatens me if I don't join them. Please state the nature of the threat. It may be just one of those fly-by-night organizations out to rob people of their money and their sanity by making us believe they have all the truth in the world. I hate to confess but I do love planting trees myself. However, if you are sick of all this talk about the environment, in your behalf, I would like to ask everybody around to delete from their dictionaries words that (1)imply, (2)pertain, and (3)point to the topic about the estate of the world's ecology. I hope this is the last you'll ever hear about this whole senseless discussions.

Well... one of the worst examples for me was some idiotic person who worked for my company. She decided that it would be a good idea to pitch to the company that we should not have styrofoam cups. Because of HER hatred of styrofoam cups, she actually caused the company to take her advice and they stopped buying styrofoam cups! This really ticked me off, as I used those for my coffee, my tea, and my water during the day. They tried to say that it was much BETTER for the environment to use your own mugs and your own cups - but needless to say - here is what happened. I cannot TELL you how many coffee mugs I had stolen. People also would use my water bottles or ice tea glasses and then leave them dirty in the sink. I got sick and tired of replacing my mugs and cups and having to freaking wash everything and HOPE people wouldn't touch it. SO...to get the drama queen back for getting rid of the styrofoam, I went and I bought my own industrial sized supply of styrofoam cups and I stacked them on top of my file cabinet in my cube and I USED them daily. Here is my problem with environmentalist folks. If YOU want to be that way, BE THAT WAY. But do NOT force ME to be that way too. If you don't want to use styrofoam, then don't, but you better not prevent me from using it if I feel like it. I think it is very rude, assuming, obnoxious, and horrible for you to try and control what I do. I have NEVER tried to stop someone environmental from walking to work, using a reusable water bottle, not using their air conditioning, and carrying a cloth bag for groceries. More power to you! However, I don't ever want any of you telling me that I HAVE TO DO WHAT YOU DO or interfering with my disposable products, my gas guzzling car, and my AC unit. I can't believe people have the nerve to try and interfere with each other this way, and I am indeed still very angry about it. I hope that chick who screwed with my styrofoam cups gets fired someday lol.

Yeah, I get the drift of your situation. It's not life-threatening really. Still we come across some folks who want to go to extremes just to ram down home their principles regardless of our reasons and feelings. I have a run-in myself with an old maid who kept yelling not to burn our trash to prevent smoke from contributing to "global warming." I just can't help but smile about the absurdity of it all. If you remember the story of Don Quixote by a famous Spanish novelist Miguel de Cervantes, that kind of "environmental crusade" is more like it. They attack the wrong enemy with the wrong tactic and at a very inopportune time. They have the right vision with the wrong mission. It's not that I downplay their intelligence, or disregard the views of Vice President Al Gore, but it seems some people have read too much and known too little when it comes to environmental advocacy. Instead of battling over the use of styrofoam cups or burning trash, why not go for policies and companies that manufacture/promote/use non-biodegradable plastics, coal-fired and nuclear plants, fossil fuels and non-renewable energy sources. What about seeking/inventing/developing for more "green technologies" instead of just planting trees or picking up plastics from the littered seashores? It would be far better to stop volcanic eruption to prevent greenhouse gases from venting into the atmosphere. Cervantes must also be smiling from his grave seeing all this absurdity. For the meantime, let's just be content that we can still smell the flowers and enjoy the coffee from our styrofoam cups hoping that the quixotic crusaders may find a better way to attack their gigantic windmills.
