It is definitely a bad habit. The important thing is for you not to stress out about not being able to sleep. The more you try to sleep the harder it becomes. That's why counting sheep method doesn't work. If you can't sleep after staying in bed for more than 10 minutes then you should get up and do something relaxing until you start to get sleepy. Try to go to bed and get up at the same time every day. There is actually quite a thorough article about dealing with insomnia. If you want to read it here is the link: http://www.bukisa.com/articles/300862_how-to-deal-with-insomnia-naturally

Yes of course it is a bad habit and it should be avoided.and when we used to it ...it is not possible to break it.

Just try to go bed LOT earlier. Relax your self, listen for slow music if you like. When U're lying on bed but unable to sleep, just turn of the lamp and close your eyes. Something that makes me can't sleep fast is I'm still thinking of something when I already lying on my bed, like daydreaming. So, try to not thinking of anyting if you can't sleep. Just close your eyes and blank your mind, it always works for me. I hopeit will work on you too. Good luck !

Yes, going late to bed is a bad habit and in the long run you will have to pay the price in poorer health. Studies have shown that every hour one goes to bed before midnight counts for two hours of sleep. Try getting up at 6 AM every morning and after you will be tired and go back to the good habit of going to bed early around 10:30 PM. Good success!

I have also experienced having trouble to sleep early. After I graduated college and I still don't have job, I used to sleep regularly at 2AM or 3AM and woke up at around 9-10AM. During those days, I wasn't able to sleep earlier than that even if I wanted to and I thought I have developed some kind on insomnia. What I did just to take warm bath just help relax my body. Then I started getting my body used to sleep earlier little by little until I was able to sleep as early as 9PM. I think our body was just adjusting to our daily habits. And when we tend to sleep late at night, then our body adjusts itself so we won't feel sleepy yet as we wanted to stay awake to the usual time that we sleep. And in order for us to sleep early, we probably need to adjust our body again and get used sleeping early. -)

Staying awake late at night is certainly not a healthy habit. But staying late out of bed is allowable if some one has to do so because of studies or office assignments. Furthermore, medical consultation is required by those individuals who frequently experiences sleepless nights.

Indeed it is a bad habit, actually a very bad habit. I can tell that myself because i've been to it and now i'm gaining the bad result. What can i only advice is that try correcting it by avoiding those things that makes you up late. As much as possible pay attention to your health- i mean think about what will happen 1 year from now or 5 or 10 years from now if you keep doing that. Maybe this time you still feel good and dont have any sickness due to that bad habit but think about the future, you will surely suffer the consequences. Anyway, i know it will not be an easy thing to correct but take it one step at a time. Avoid watching movies late, make it a habit to go to bed early even if your not sleepy. Soon your eyes will get used to it. Drink milk or eat fruits, take vitamins or any healthy just to strengthen your immune- thats to avoid any bad effects in the future. Well those are just some of the things you can do, there are still lots and i know you can do it. Happy mylotting!

Not only you are suffering in this way, I myself too a late night sleeper and I have to wake up in the early morning. Actually I have to work in online upto midnight. But when I was a pupil, at that time also I have to make my study upto midnight. To me it feels me very comfortable to work in the night than in the day. But as far as I know that to sleep at late night is not good for our health. It effects a lot to our digestive system as well as the total body. But in this present world, some of us are having lack of time to complete all of our due work. So sometime we have to sleep at night. But it should be continued for a long time. But I myself have been habituated by this way.

I had the same problem when I was in high school. I don't know but people says that those habit is normal as you undergo on your puberty ages. There was a time that I really can't help myself but to take sleeping pills just to have 3 - 5 hours of sleep. Now I'm already 21, Thank God, I'm done with it.

Taking enough sleep is not just important but it is indeed a law in ourselves that must be followed because if getting late to sleep becomes a habit, our immune system will become weak. The result - we will be more prone to sickness. In fact, there is a recent study revealing that those are deprieved of at least 8 hours sleep is more likely to have colds.

Is it right that we need a minimum of 8 hours of sleeping . I was just thinking it as of 6 hours of sleeping..well it is is just a bad problem that i have to get away.

Gradually move your bedtime back bit by bit. Eventually, you'll be able to sleep earlier. If you really can't sleep, try some warm tea or milk, or work out a few hours before you try to sleep.

I suppose going to sleep late at night can be considered a bad habit if you have to wake up quite early the following morning to go to work! There's virtually a guarantee that extreme tiredness will set in if this goes on for an extended period of time! I like to go to bed late myself and yes I must admit that I feel very tired in the mornings. I think that Friday nights are the worst as I love watching late night movies and they can finish at 2am! You are probably so used to this sleeping pattern now that it's hard to change and to try a different approach. I think as long as you are receiving an adequate number of hours sleep per night then you should be alright! I sometimes go to bed early when I am feeling extremely tired, I guess you have to listen to what your body is telling you as it were, it kind of acts as your teacher and mentor! Andrew

Our body works like a computer that once you programmed it to do something it will always function the way it is programmed. It seems that you have been doing or adopting this habit for such a long time that your body has fully adjusted to it. It is a bad habit, indeed because it will seriously affect your health, your mental state and everything else around you. I used to be like you when I was younger. That I resorted to taking pills just to get enough sleep before I go to work. Heck, it was a bad idea. You can try getting a nice warm bath before hitting the sack. Dim out your lights and try to hypnotize yourself by counting from one to ten sheep jumping off the fence.LOL Sometimes, these tricks the brain to signal sleepiness. I hope this will work on you, too.:)

Our bodies require a certain amount of sleep at night to function properly. If we are feeling tired, that is the bosy's way of saying it 's time to retire for the night. If we don't get enough rest, we won't be doing ourselves any favors. It is fun to stay up late and do things we like to do. just remember to take care of your body and mind too.

Yes buddy you are right that our body requires some rest and that too at particular timings and if we neglect this then we can face problems.

This is how you correct the problem: Go to sleep at your regular time. Then wake up early while you are still tired. Stay awake for the whole day. You will be tired throughout the day but don't fall asleep until an acceptable time (such as 10 PM). When you go to sleep, wake up the same time you did before. Keep doing this until you can create a suitable sleeping schedule.

I also had the same problem, after working the night shift for 6 years. When I switched to a day job, the weirdest thing happened: I could wake up at 7 am without any problems, even without alarm clocks, but at night, I couldn't fall asleep before 3-4 am. Most naturally, I was extremely tired all day, and couldn't get anything done properly. Here's what worked for me: I emptied my bedroom - took out the computer, the TV, the books, even the posters from the walls. Moved all cosmetics to the bathroom, and even removed the table lamp, because it was too easy to turn it on and get distracted. Bedroom was for sleeping, period. Then I created a routine for evenings: went jogging, stopped for a drink with friends on my way home (lucky for me, my friends also have boring routines, I could find them everyday in the same place, at the same hour), had a warm bath and read my book in the tub, and then went to sleep. It took me about half a year to kick the habit, and I still have problems if I sleep in a hotel, for example, so I honestly hope you have better luck with it.
