Don't forget that some people love to comment or make gossip about something they consider not normal. I mean, if they are watching someone and see that the particular person has been single for a long time, and they will make comment or gossip about him or her, something that can be their talking ingredients.
Honestly I never found out the association in here, but that's my other opinion if you ask me so.

No, I would never think about such a connotation. I'd rather think that this is a difficult person or somebody who have problems to chose his or her partner.

I don't think that is always the case, I mean there are single people who would love to be with the opposite gender if they are given the chance but it just so happens that they have not yet found the one they want to be with for the rest of their lives. I have several friends who are perfectly straight but are still single even if they are already over their 40s.

and why are some married people turn out to be gay or lesbian for real?
i don't see why they have that association. maybe because they think men are not interested in women that's why they're single when in fact, they just haven't found their match yet or are just too picky. let's leave them the benefit of the doubt. it's their choice anyway.
ask this people who have that opinion: have you been with a partner all your life? and during those times you were single, have you thought of yourself as gay? just wondering.
