So my 5 month old daughter is going to be baptised this Sunday at my grandmas church. With our older daughter we had god parents but this time around I don't know who to choose. Do we even have to choose? The church is a Lutheran church if that helps any. My gram suggested my mom and my uncle but they are family so isn't it a given that they will do the job of raising her if something happens to us and to teach her the ways of the Lord? I am hoping that it's not a requirement to have them. WIth my oldest, the Godmother hasn't even seen her in more than a month. The godfather see's her though. She isn't the greatest example but I believe she would take care of her and I know she loves my oldest and my oldest loves her.

Congratulation for having your baby baptise. As for the godfather and godmother, it is good to have one and the one that really care about our child. but the only problem sometimes, the godmother and godfather only there by name but never do their jobs helping their godchildren about Christians faith. I don't know about your church and your country how is it. But mine, some godfather and godmother didn't even go to the church. How can that be? I also don't know. I hope you can get a good Godparent for your daughter. Good luck. Happy baptism to your daughter. Christian be rejoice as we had another member joining us.

I think that's wonderful that she is going to be baptized, its a great outward act to show that you have been cleansed by God. I don't know much about God parents I think the name is less about God and more about somebody taking care of them if something happens to the parents. Once she is baptized she is God's child and he will take care of her.

hmm well I pretty much dont know anything about baptismals other then the child gets baptised and there is usually a small lunch of dinner or something afterwards. When I was young I went with my family to my cousins christening I think it was or something like that. I think the girl was like 5 or something though so maybe that was something different. Since its been a year since you wrote this I wonder what happened. Were you able to do the baptism without having god parents? I have a baptismal to go to on the 19th of february.

I was baptized when I was six, and I was never given any Godparents... but my church is non-denominational. I didn't know it was a requirement anywhere. It really shouldn't be. It seems like a minor detail to me. In any case, why couldn't you just pick the same ones as with your older daughter? Maybe you can put off the decision until later, and see if you can find any friends up to the task.
