Deworming needed!

This discussion may sound disgusting, but it is part of our life with dogs.
This morning I saw some white spots in my dog's stools. I thought: what the
did she eat yesterday? But when I observed them closer, I saw they were moving. Awwww, worms! It was too early for a visit to the vet but before noon, we went to the vet for deworming.
As I took few days off, we were to the vet at an hour when nobody was there (except for the vet, of course). So the young vet was glad to see us and she was willing to chatting. Binne behaved great, she actually eat the deworming pills as treats and she wanted more.
The vet explained me how dogs usually get tapeworms by ingesting fleas that contain the eggs of tapeworms. They generally swallow such fleas while licking the site of flea bites.
So, as this summer was a feast for fleas (I can't remember any summer like this, with so many fleas!) almost all dogs were exposed to the risk of getting tapeworms.
We may not see the signs of the tapeworms infestation, but we have to deworm our dogs at a regular basis.
When was the last time you dewormed your dogs? What are the signs that shows you that your dog need a deworming?

My puppies had them at first when we brought them home, but have not had any problems since then..I am sorry you got overwhelmed with fleas..Ciara did have a problem a couple weeks ago, but I took some aggressive measures by really checking her and spraying more of the lavender spray on her..And when I say checking, I mean really checking and I would have a cup of soapy water, whenever I found a flea, off it went into the cup. I also increased the vacuuming and kept the vacuum on the enclosed back porch, keeping the fleas out of my house. Then the last 4-5 days, I have seen no more fleas on her. September is the worst month for fleas, I should have taken these measures before she got them as bad as she did, but it wasn't too bad, the worse of it was about 20 fleas and that was when I started out..So I did pretty well at keeping the fleas down, just next year I'll have to remember when September rolls around, to check her more often and spray her more often..

I am surprised you gave me a BR for this one since it obviously isn't the best flea repellent..I think it is finally over, but I don't know if it is because of the 3 inches of snow we received yesterday or that I started using citrus oil mixed in mineral oil and adding a little vinegar to their water. I guess I'll have to wait until next year, for another round and see what really works...

You know, carmelanirel, the lavander spray recipe has helped me a lot. We only had had problems with the fleas before you told me about this recipe. Since then, I can't say fleas have made us troubles. I spray Binne's coat once or twice a week, and fleas don't bother her as much as before.
I remember two months ago when I went to a pet shop to buy a new pipette, the vet from the pet shop told me that we would have problems with worms too if the fleas had bothered us. At that time I didn't pay attention to what he said, but now I realize he was so right!

I'd like to come and live in your area with my dog.
I don't know what happened this summer, but every dog owner I know complained a lot about those pests.
I know that dogs should be dewormed twice a year, I did so for my previous dog and I never saw any signs of worms infestation at her. But Binne was dewormed 5 months ago. I was going to deworm her this late Octomber, but I obviously had to do it a bit early because of the 'signs'.
