What's in a name?

A name is just a name, right? Something for people to call you out as an individual instead of calling you "hey boy" or "hey girl" or "woman" or "man." Then again, maybe not. I know that there are many sites online built to help give future moms ideas of what to name their unborn child, giving them names with its origin, meaning and rating. According to my friend, names might have some link to a person's personality. Such as Ashley's are usually dramatic, Justin's are usually stubborn, Laura's are usually smart and so on. I'm not sure how accurate her theory is, but it got be thinking. What do you think? How important is a name?

I have a similar theory to your friend based off of the few recurring names in my life... People named "Chris" are attracted to me. I don't know why. They are also usually a little off if you know what I mean. They aren't too bright or they come off as kind of creepy. But as friends, they are very loyal and tend to be up for anything. People named "Steven" have the quality of being a leech and they're kind of dumb. Though the 'ph' version of the name tend to be pretty fun to hang around with. "Roberts" are a lot like "Chris"(es?) and if they go by "Bob" they tend to come off as selfish and rude. "Annas" are kind but have what seems to be a stubborn and closed of perspective of the world around them. "Brians" are socialites. If spelled with a 'y' they seem to be the one everyone loves to pick on. My name means "protector of mankind" or "oak tree" depending on where you look it up, and I have seen that a lot of people depend on me. I seem to give the ones I know strength... I buy into the theory of names having meaning about as much as I do astrological sun signs. In general and not too specifically, it all works out but, ultimately, people are people through and through and we all have our own things going for us that make us unique.

Choosing a person name is almost choosing their identity. Other people belief that the name of the person bears somehow affects the person's behavior; therefore great care needs to be taken in naming a person. A name molds a person's identity. It is important then to get the best name of a person. Many of us believe that a person could exhibit some characteristics of the person you them their after. That's why many mothers out their have already plan what is the name of the child before giving birth.

Besides giving meaning and personality, name is also used to identify each individual. If you have two sons without names, then you cannot call them boy 1 or boy 2, right? Even boy 1 and boy 2 are names given to identify each of them. Not only to a person, but name also be given to objects. I myself gave names to each of my belongings, so I can identify them better.

I believe in the meaning behind every name but it's just a name, i'm sure. Judging someone by their names is nothing short of being judgemental in general. I'd rather know the person than just form a snap judgement based on their own name.

I believe a name is just a name. A person's experiences in life will shape their personality more than their name will. A name should be something that will be respected though.

I think there are many things in a name. And it is very important for a person. Suppose there are many persons stand in front of you and you want to call a particular person. Then if you call hey boy or hey girl then every person comes to you because their too many boys and girls. So I think importance of a name is everywhere. So we always get a name to our children.

As a Chinese, we are quite particular when choosing names. Our names usually consist of three words, we have a surname to follow, the middle character can be a word to show our standing in the family or among the same generation of cousins. Finally, the last character is our personal name. We believe that having a good name would influence our life, so there are actually some who consult a fengshui master to change their names if they think that their life is not smooth-sailing.

a name is something special given by your parents. you must cherish it for it has a meaning and you must take care of it. a person who is not proud of his name must not be sad for it is given by you because you are special.
