I've used AVG for a couple years but I allready quit to use it because this software make my PC running slow during the scan. After I unistalled it, I put Avira along with Smadav (for local virusses) into my PC. They both are effective enough so far.

Yes I do have AVG free version in my laptop. And at the same time I also install Avira AntVir Personal Free Edition. SO far the two can detect most of the virus but still there are stubborn viruses actacking the sys.

I ever install AVG and Avira too, but I think those two didn't get along. Some anti viruses will regard other anti virus as a virus so it try to delete it. Maybe you should try to uninstall Avira first, then do full scan with AVG. Let's see how it work. Have you tried another anti virus ? I heard that Eset is good enough but you need everuday upgrade for it. If you have continue internet connection maybe you should try it.

I think there's no effective free ware antivirus. Anti virus company secretly creates virus programs that can damage or crash your personal computer. Instead they keep on improving the virus programs so that computer users will buy anti virus program. And that is because without computer virus there will be no anti virus company emerged. If you want an effective anti virus programs you will buy and get a license from them.

Huh?! You are claiming that AV companies create viruses on purpose to stay in business? Sorry cinjhoxmyltc, but I think that's one of the most ridiculous things I've heard. Do you have proof? Like a link to research on the possibility? Or is this just conjecture? To each his own, but I have used free MSE and have not acquired one of those viruses supposedly created by one of the pay-AVs threatening me to pay them for protection or they will crash my computer. I will not be blackmailed!

In term of detecting the viruses Avira can detect it very fast. Just that Avira cannot clean all the viruses detected (the free version). I am also using RemoveIT pro v4- SE....good also but still cannot clean one virus.

Try Microsoft Security Essentials -- highly rated and uses very little resources. More info: http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/
